First of all, Just would like to say this is my first post. Anyways, I have had a few Ideas floating around in my head, and I have followed a few threads about simple and awesome mods! After a few pictures, I have decided that I must do the Satoshi grill mod... And I am working up the courage to cut up a grill and make it my own. One of the many obsticals in my way is what color grill am I going to use. Currently I have a chrome grill that matches my bullbar, but I am not a fan of much chrome. Then I decided that Paint match Magnetic Grey would look good (despite the lack of pictures I am able to find). And then mate black is also another option. By using the plasti-dip I can get a good idea what a black grill on a grey tacoma would look like. SO! With all that being said, I am going to try this plasti-dip stuff on my emblem and chrome grill. Pics Below!

I started out by removing the Emblem and cleaning the bug meat off of it.

Here goes the first coat. I haven't done much painting outside of woodwork, so Im not really the best at this.

    a4710068_ec08d056d2a98f9b7018ccb8c3ac2388cb23d982.jpg

I went on to apply a second coat. I was starting to realize that maybe doing this at night wasn't a great idea. Not to mention that where I live, its at 80% humidity.

    ec7286b9_e55f22c58016c0db96f4065096cac876a03332cb.jpg

Figured that it was good enough for now. Might redo it again tomorrow when its light outside. Thankfully this Plasti-Dip peals really easly.

Next I took off the grill itself. Chrome seems to be pretty hard to keep clean. I washed it with dish soap and wiped it down with a towel.

Taping this thing down is a pain in the butt. There are a few tight corners and it makes it hard to get the damn tape in there.

There were a few casualties... My dog loves tape...

    Finished taping the sucker up...

Had to get help from my lady. She's good with the painting and tape and crap like that.

First Coat looks rough and uneven. Pretty much fail as of now. Going to re-do and post more pics tomorrow. Maybe even switch to painting inside my apartment haha.

BACK AGAIN! Thanks for everyone for the warm welcome! Finished the project and results below

Started clean again, washed with dish soap and decided that I was going to paint inside haha. Both fans running with windows wide open! (note: It is raining outside and Its very humid)

Very first coat. I was being very patient with this and wanted to do it right...

Second Coat was very uneven and thick in some places, but after reading a few comments, decided that its just how the plasti-dip is

After the third coat, its looking allot better to me. Both fans still running strong.

Also, this was a problem after i removed the tape. With some time and a razor blade, I could clean this up easy

    Logo looking shady as well.

Honestly, I think the matte grill looks awesome! Just, not on my truck... I dont think the dark grey flows well with the black grill. All in all, the Plasti Dip is a cool accessorie to have. A little annoying to work with at times, but its really easy to use. I think i will stick with chrome when I do my satoshi mod. Either that or I will attempt to paint-match my truck.

    Thanks!

Once you use it, you will be addicted. You should have stayed away from the Dip....you should have stayed away. There is a support group thread on TW that will help you stay away from the Dip. Oh, the first few coats look rough. As you apply more it smooths out a little. The hardest part is removing the tape and not peeling off the Dip. Score it with a razor blade where the tape and Dip meet. Welcome to PDA (Plasti-Dip anonymous).

For what it's worth...... Here is my 2012 DCSB TRD Sport in Magnetic Gray with the 'Yota Logo Plasti-derped. (All of TW please forgive me), I actually like it. Makes it look like one of Vader's evil kids. :D

Awesome Dog. Keep at it you will get it. So I should stay away from plasti-dip? I just bought my first can and I am planning on plasti-dipping my emblem as well.

I did my emblem with pasti-dip then but a couple of layers of clearcoat on top of that.

Its been on there for over a year now and I have never had to touch it up. Its been through high pressure car wash and still in tack.

The outside edge of the grill requires an occasional touch up. but not too bad. Plasti-dip touches up really well.
