Hi, I have few scratches on the white part of my Cali license plate. What is the best paint to use? Do I need to use reflective spray paint?

    Would appreciate your help. Thanks!

As long as you just touch up the scratches with a paint color that matches (as closely as possible) you should be alright. If the plate is so damaged that it is illegible, you'll need to replace them.

Standard California license plates are issued when you buy a new vehicle, replace lost, stolen, or mutilated plates, or turn in special interest license plates. License plates identify the type of registration you have (commercial, passenger, trailer, etc.) and provide law enforcement a means of locating the owner through DMV records. Standard license plates can be replaced by submitting an application for duplicate plates, or by visiting a DMV field office. )

This is the first time I've ever heard anyone ask a question like this. I would not paint a license plate.

I was well aware you werent painting the whole plate. You have to remember that I live in Va. I had a inspection sticker that had crinkled up from using the defrost so much and was stopped at a check point and asked if the sticker was actually mine. Cops here are beyond anal.

I was gonna make a smart azzed comment about license plates and prison and chit...

'till I realized the OP was female.

    So I won't.
I'll remain respectful and just say...if it's bad scratched and bothers you...get a new plate.

let us see pics (no, not of you in a bikini ;))...the plate.

    you are welcome

in all seriousness...the background paint on most plates are a special reflective paint. I do not know if you could match it. and, if you could...how good would it really look (as you said you are pickey)

plus the cost of paint and time...you may be better off getting a new plate from the state.

plus, I hear California could use the money (OK there is my smart-azzed comment) :D
