I am planing on painting my center console area around the shifter knob and radio. Also the small trim areas.

What kind of paint are people using that holds up good? I feel like the fusion paint has too much shine to it.

Has anyone tried using the color match spray paint you can have mixed to match your truck color from the auto store? How does it look/hold up?

Also do people just spray it on and leave it or do you do sanding first?

    Thanks for the help!

Rims and tires , exhaust , stereo , Bhlm ,Changed carpet to black from grey. toytec ultimate lift kit. Allpro front bumper and light bar. In process of blacking out interior. Otrattw switches, black vinyl armrest mod, clazzio leather seat covers with heaters, flowmaster dual exhaust, hornblasters train horns,
I used Matt black bumper paint. Didn't do any sanding. Didn't want to lose any of the grain on it. Just washed it good with dish soap, dried it good and wiped it down with alcohol before paint. To color match it make sure you put a flex agent in it or I think it will crack. My truck is super white. Replaced grey carpet with black. In the process of blacking out interior.

Did you prime just the shifter thing? or all of it? I wanted to do the black like you did on the center console and do the trim the color of my truck (pyrite mica) id that paint works well. I would be curious so see how it stays/look with the Color matched center console or on the dash by the radio.

the only piece I had to prime was the small price on the shifter itself. The thin trim around the shifter indicator, steering wheel emblem, and rings I just cleaned and painted. No issues with any of them.

How does the steering wheel emblem come off?

Lol. Yeah its hidden in that thread somewhere..

I used a very small razor blade, but Im sure a regular box cutter will work too, and a small flat head screwdriver..

I used the screwdriver to pry up the emblem just enough to get the blade under it, and then cut the soft plastic tabs that hold It to the steering wheel. Be careful and patient. I got a few light scratches on the black part of the steering wheel, but hardly noticeable. It took about 15-20 mins to remove.

For re-installing.. I used two part epoxy and added a small amount to the entire bottom of the emblm, and press and held in place until it set. That was months ago and no issues with any of the epoxy or paint.

    Good luck. [IMG]

You have to use caution painting plastic.Too "hot" of a paint and it will do some serious damage to your plastic.
