I just went the other way with my '09 due to the DTRL's melting the lenses. Swapped out the OEM relay and "Y" harness with a flasher and other component that was sent to me by an owner that wanted the DTRL's in his truck. Before making this change I would make sure that you aren't going to have melting issues.

X2. I installed the OEM DTRL kit on my 2006 and it started fading the reflector so I took mine out and sold it on TW.

O really is there something different about the lens in pre 09 or is it just a chance that it could happen? Could the bulbs be replaced with lower watts?

I've heard it happening to owners with 09+ and its just hit and miss. Some people have issues while a bunch of others dont.

I just got some DTRL LED's from csjumper2003, since LED's create less heat and use less energy, hoping this will prevent the housing from melting.

Yeah the LED's should work. I have LED's for my rear turn signals but you have to get resistors to avoid the hyper flashing.

Oh nice! I was going to try LED's up for the DTRL's but I just ended up selling the DTRL kit. I did the DIY DTRL mod and thats what I use right now and I like it along with the alternate turn signal mod. ;)

Yeah it is but make sure if you guys do it to get quality LED bulbs. I went through a couple Ebay ones and they worked okay but the output sucked and they werent bright enough. Check out v-leds.com, they can get pricey but I am very happy with my rear turn signals cause the output is great!!
