i picked up my 09 taco about 5 months ago and every so often when i go to start it weather the engine is hot or cold, sometimes it just doesnt start. i will pull the key back out and try it again and it will then usually start. today for the first time after it didnt start on the first try, the maintence required light came on for about 10seconds and then it the light turned off. anyone know whats happening?

I've had that, when it doesn't start does it do anything or just nothing. I never had a light though. Usually I take all feet off the pedals then push the clutch and brake and try it again and it works

Does the engine crank over or does it do absolutely nothing?

    Check your clutch switch.
I glued a chunk of plastic on the surface that depresses the switch. Now I don't have to mash it into the carpet to get it to crank.

Try using the spare key for a while.

Could also be a dirty connection on the starter
