Hey guy's, I recieved my recall notice a few days ago, made an appointment to take it in to a dealer. I arrive this morning at the dealer, go through all the formalities then wait about 45 minutes. The service advisor comes & tells me my Spiral Cable already is the updated part ? WTF ??? He gave me a story about lot numbers for the part, said mine was within parameters of the lot numbers.

I had the Spiral Cable replaced under warranty in Nov. of 2010, when the air bag light came on.

I was under the impression they were all going to be replaced even if it had been done before, anyone know what's up ?

Dealer is correct. When you had it replaced under warranty the 1st time the spiral cable might have been the "updated" recall unit already. Batch numbers (production dates really) specify that. The service campaign has the batch numbers that should and should not. E replaced

I am going in for mine on Saturday. I love the look on their faces when I pull into the service window. I hope I don't get any shit about it. I will take the free oil change and the free safety inspection.

This. The affected trucks are up through part of '09, meaning newer cables were being used after that. So more than likely you would have gotten one of the newer ones in '10.

It also appears that the trucks with steering wheel audio controls are not affected.

No true, the ones WITH audio controls are the main ones the ones without audio controls are not affected although I have seen a couple of non audio ones get replaced due to a bad batch #

Not according to what one of the techs posted in the other thread.

I got the letter, I don't have audio controls, and supposedly 80-90% of those who got letters are impacted.

There are about 6 out of 8 lot numbers that are affected. I have yet to come across one that doesn't need to be replaced. If yours has been replaced before, or is a later production in certain model years, yours may not apply, but still needs to be checked to confirm.

I'm guessing the recall is now in effect for Canada? I haven't got a notice, but then I just got the 081 pedal / reflash notice a couple weeks ago. It seems they track you down if you don't update your info on purpose.:spy: The 081 letter is very vague, but on that one I am allowed to request a new pedal at no charge, rather than accepting a "professional" hack job, correct? I won't get it done otherwise. Thanks!

You can sign a waiver and decline the recall.

The recall is twofold... they chop the pedal, and they also flash the ECU so if the brake is applied with more than, IIRC, 30% throttle, the engine shuts down to idle.

Yes, I am well aware of the throttle interlock in the reflash and the standard procedure to cut the pedal. I was under the impression that I could request a new, uncut, short pedal like the '11+ trucks are built with, at no charge to me. Call me OCD if you like, I didn't shell out the kinda dough I did for this truck to accept a cut off pedal. I really don't care if its shorter, or stays the same, and I have nothing against the reflash. If anyone can answer my actual question about the pedal with certainty I would be grateful. Same with the question about the spiral cable recall in Canada. If its going in for recall work, its going in once. And I want to be informed since I know what the typical service advisor will try to pull.

I should be getting my recall done tomorrow! Hopefully this works cause might airbag light has been on for a while... Does anyone know what the part looks like? any pictures? I know I'll be watching over them as they replace it I HATE other people doing work on my tacoma. Never seem to do it right unless you do it yourself or breath down their necks while replacing.
