Recently bought the truck how it sits but it needs to be regeared. I can hardly roll out of second gear, truck just feels sluggish compared to my 96 and 98 stock 5-luggers I have previously owned.

This is somthing I have never done before and know very little about. Been lurking on here a while and there seems to be quite a few knowledgable folks here so Im open for advice.

    Truck
    2011 Tacoma 4x2 non-prerunner ext cab (5-lug)......4cyl/manual
    Tires 265/70R17 BFG's...31.5in
    stock gearing per dealership 3.307
Diff Size...8.4----Found out through 4wheelparts that if I have 12 ring bolts I have the 8.4 diff and if I have 10 bolts I have the 8 diff

Based on the TW calc looks like I want to g owith 4.11 size gears. Any opinions?? Just looking to return truck to stock, regain a little power and not kill MPG's (maybe improve).

Whats best to buy? Im in Long Beach, CA area.
    Thanks

Any stock 2nd gen 4 cyl pre-runner or 4wd will have 4.10s. You will probably find a good deal on a complete third on here in the buy/sell section if you're patient.

Just to clarify, an elocker third won't fit, even if it has 4.10s. That would be rare or custom anyway.

Thanks for the good info guys. The only other thing I just thought of is that my truck came with the "Auto LSD" rear end so I would have to find a donor truck also with that.

    or

could I swap the gears out of a non "Auto LSD" rear end into mine? Would they fit?

Auto LSD uses the brakes to stop wheel spin, and basically is traction control. It still uses an open diff, unlike earlier models with mechanical LSD that have a clutch pack. Which is good for you, because stock tacoma 4.10 diffs will be open diffs.
