And you were complaining about other people being dicks.
    1) If you get in an accident the other person can claim they didn't see you because you didn't have your lights on. You may try to say different, but your tickets prove other wise.
    2) Drunk people have slow reaction times, and what if one is making a turn as you are driving in the intersection but he didn't see any lights?

It's for your safety, maybe you should have focused on the part of his comment where he was talking about other people seeing you and not just your privilege of being able to drive.

It appears you live in Texas so

Sec. 547.302. DUTY TO DISPLAY LIGHTS.
    (a) A vehicle shall display each lighted lamp and illuminating device required by this chapter to be on the vehicle:
    (1) at nighttime; and
    (2) when light is insufficient or atmospheric conditions are unfavorable so that a person or vehicle on the highway is not clearly discernible at a distance of 1,000 feet ahead.
    (b) A signaling device, including a stoplamp or a turn signal lamp, shall be lighted as prescribed by this chapter.
    (c) At least one lighted lamp shall be displayed on each side of the front of a motor vehicle.
    (d) Not more than four of the following may be lighted at one time on the front of a motor vehicle:
    (1) a headlamp required by this chapter; or
    (2) a lamp, including an auxiliary lamp or spotlamp, that projects a beam with an intensity brighter than 300 candlepower.

And here is how "nighttime" is defined:
    Sec. 541.401. MISCELLANEOUS TERMS.
    In this subtitle:
    ...
    (5) "Nighttime" means the period beginning one-half hour after sunset and ending one-half hour before sunrise.

Did you have any other questions? Turn your lights on people have been doing it since 1898, if its difficult for you perhaps consider public transportation.

Get a flow for the cabin for night driving. Essentially a checklist.

Example: ignition on, start engine, then work left across the panel. Lights, verify lights on with the green indicator in gauge cluster, check rpm, engine temp, parking brake, radio and pump the tunes.

    You get the idea...

California Vehicle Code Section 12500(a) " A person may not drive a motor vehicle upon a highway, unless the person then holds a valid driver's license issued under this code, except those persons who are expressly exempted under this code."

And before you try to argue the exemptions, that refers to Driver's Licenses issued by other states are valid while you visit CA.

Obviously not everyone lives in CA, but I think it is very safe to assume each state has similar laws.

    yes, the op will

the op was hoping someone was going to come up with something like this

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/1475-05-drl-daytime-running-lights-install-oem.html

and well, here it is. So Im going to do this... sorry if i got defensive and pissed off, you have to understand how i came into this naturally a little mad at the whole situation, and the fact that it was such a bullshit little mistake.

this is why i never got pulled over with my lights running lights that came on automaticly with my old truck, they were bright enough.

So ill make this mod with my fog lights, and for extra measures, ill seek out some stronger bulbs and make a post-it note, and drive around with out my gauges lit during the day, and leave my headlights on all the time, since I can have:

Is the truck getting you pulled over or are you getting you pulled over?

Sounds like you had a habit of not turning your lights on with your other truck as well. Seems to me you'd simply be better off learning how to turn your lights on, rather than finding ways to keep yourself dummified. Before the Tacoma I came from 7 yrs in an S-10 which had automatic headlights, so I know how it is to start driving a truck you have to actively turn the lights on with. Notwithstanding, I had zero problems figuring out that I need to turn my lights on when it's DARK OUTSIDE.

If you aren't able to follow the rules of operating a motor vehicle, then take a bus and exercise your god given right to travel the highways.

But, on another note, why not set up a light on your dash that can only be turned off when you put your lights on. It could be a bright LCD in maybe an annoying bright green light or even something like blue or white. Once you turn your lights on, off goes the annoying bright light.

Be careful of what larger watt/size bulb you place in the marker light socket, you could overheat the wires or relay.

.... I'm not trying to shatter your dreams, I'm just being realistic.

Very true. My work truck is a 2006 Chevy 2500HD with automatic lights. I drive it daily during both daytime & nighttime. I have never had a problem remembering to turn on my headlights in my taco.
