Did you use tier 1 gas in your high mileage tacos to get there?

I don't know what tier one gas is.
    Is it 87 octane?

Gas is gas. After that the oil companies add detergents and what not. Just fuel it up and go.

I see Mobil, Shell, BP tankers all in line at the refinery terminal, waiting to be filled from the same hose.

I've seen Chevron gas trucks line up at the same tanks as the grocery store gas trucks line up to. They were both at the Tosco refinery, which merged with Conoco.

It's because they use the same output nozzle. The gas usually comes from different tanks because each brand (or each brand's parent company) uses different additives. I was talking with someone familiar with the subject and they said the piping/plumbing/nozzle systems (whatever they're called) for moving the fuel to and around the refineries/storage depots are pretty high-tech, they can move different stocks of fuel through the same lines seconds apart with no mixing.

What is high mileage to you?

I have 150k miles and I had a brief period in time where I went high octane, more or less just as a mpg self study. Maybe about 6 months or so, but otherwise, nothing too much stronger than rubbing alcohol.

Just saw your clarification. Along with my mpg study, I was also trying out "premium" branded fuels (primarily Chevron, but Exxon and Shell also), which ultimately made my study inconclusive because I changed too many variables all at once.

Off topic, the results of my study: I did not get better, but I actually got worse mpg by switching to high octane premium brands.

Since switching back (I primarily use RaceTrac or QT) now, my mileage has increased.
