Alright, so I've been looking at tons of second gens. My problem is that they seem to look either god awful or sick as hell. Are there years that look better than others? or am I just seeing some of the trucks at bad angles?
I'm very interested in this taco, to me it's stood out as one that looks great, and I'm diggin the color. If the stealership works with me on the price, and my insurance gives me a decent check for my totaled 1st gen, I'll probably give in.

Any thoughts? If I'm looking to do some offroading, will the sport package get in the way? (no skid plates, no locker..)

that's an awful lot of dough to put down on an 8 year old truck with 122k

if you have 17k to spend i'd try to find a 07+, and look at sr5 or trd offroad packages as well as sports.... the sport package won't 'get in the way of offroading' at all, it will be plenty capable for most situations, but if offroading is your main objective i'd look for a DCSB instead of the long bed. Also, the sport doesn't have a rear locker and electronic driving aids like the trd offroad so

Looks like it has been well taken care of. You might be able ti talk them down $500 more dollars.. overall its a good looking truck. I really like the color. Good luck and hope you work out a deal.

    I don't have 17 to spend..[IMG]
I was gonna offer them 15500 cash, they probably gave the original owner less than 12500, so that's still a nice chunk of profit. They can take it or leave it. If they leave it, I guess I'll just have to try to find a clean 1st gen.

and is this really a long bed? I can never tell..it seems like these second gens look different in every picture...hard to explain.

Yeah looks pretty clean aside from the spot on the rear bumper. Ive seen pictures, and this thing would look great with my anthracite wheel set, which I'll hopefully be able to grab from the salvage yard my truck is at.
If if 500 is all they can do, i'm gonna have to walk away with my head down..[IMG]

just checked the link, the sport you are looking at does in fact have a short bed, so don't worry... They make double cab sports with 5' and 6' beds (referred to DCSB and DCLB), and the long bed version has a longer wheel base which is less ideal for offroading

Yeah I think the short bed gives the truck a more balanced look to it as well, and I can still fit a dirtbike or two in it with the gate down

I'll probably get word from from my insurance tomorrow, have no idea what to expect to get for the 1st gen...

My dad totaled his 1st gen which was a lifted dcsb 4x4 auto, with 122k miles on it, and he got right around 13k i believe. Tacomas really hold their value.

I was walking around my local dealership looking at New tacomas. A salesman offered me 16,500 for my 07 with 38,000 miles. I got pissed and left.

Wow, that's actually very reasonable. How long ago was that? and what year?

I hope to get at least 10k for my 02 DC prerunner with 140k miles. I just hope I don't get short changed..
