Not too long ago I had the throwout bearing replaced. It was making the chirp when clutch was fully engaged. That got fixed, but now I have a new noise and wanted to get some opinions on what it could be.

It happens when I just start to engage the clutch, from a standstill going either forward or reverse, it sometimes happens when I'm moving and in gear and let off the gas and coast down a hill or just coast, and when I go over bumps in first gear or reverse it sometimes happens. The noise is a sharp little squeal that never seems to last much longer than a few seconds. I think it sounds like the clutch itself slipping, or a bearing. My truck has almost 40,000 miles on it now and seems too soon for all this stuff to be on the way out already.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Cam

You just described almost exactly the same noise I've been hearing. It only happens in first and second gear when the tranny is under load and really bad when going down a steep hill in second. Sounds like a belt slipping but I can here it from under the truck. I had my throwout bearing replaced also and I have about 1000 miles and my warranty is up so Im curious also as to what people think it could be.

That's the same exact noise. Sounds like a belt slipping, or something similar. Hopefully we can find an answer! I'm ready to have the dealer take a look... But would like to have an idea before I go in.

When accelerating it has an intermittent kind of squeal. Best way I can describe it is a combination of a slipping belt and an electric drill with a burnt out motor if that makes any sense. Every time I bring it to the dealer of course the noise magically disappears. :frusty:

That's the sound for sure. Definitely when the engine and drivetrain is under load, even a small amount. Wonder if it has to do with the TO bearing being replaced? I've put about 1000 miles on since the dealer replaced it. My truck is an 08 as well... Not saying that's a huge coincidence.

Have you guys checked your u-joints? Or greased them if applicable? Typically, a u joint with a dry, failed cup makes a squeaky, chirping noise not unlike crickets, which changes based on load on the driveline, and usually at lower speeds. Not unlike what you guys describe, at least how I'm understanding it.

Busted CV boots and lots of squeaks.
Had a guy do it (familiar with Taco's) for $350+resurface fly wheel, and change clutch, all toyota parts. (URD throw out bearing replacement).

I checked the u-joints earlier this summer, but I by no means looked at them extensively so I definelty haven't ruled them out. I'll get under there and take a look. Thanks!

I'm going to buy grease gun this week and hit the zerks. I'm due for my 60,000 mile maintenance.

OK, make sure you see grease purge from all 4 bearing caps on each joint. If it cures the noise, the bad joint(s) should still be replaced, as the cross, needles, and cups will have damage.

The more I think about it the more I don't think it's the u-joints. The chirping is high pitched, in time with the speed of the engine, and happens most of the time when the clutch isn't fully engaged, but engaging. I'm still going to check the u-joints to rule out all the possibilities.

So I have reason to believe this noise may be the clutch/flywheel surface may just be worn out. Maybe it's glazed over with something and slipping a small amount, enough to squeal/squeak a little.
