Hello everyone!!! I have a 2010 Tacoma. 4.0. This is my first ?. Is the oil plug gasket necessary while doing oil change?

Not necessarily. My 09 has 30K on it with the oil being changed every 5k. I am still on my original crush washer. I just keep an eye on it for oil seepage around the drain, when it starts to happen, I'll change it.

It is like $1.05. I figure it is cheap insurance.. My dealership knows and gives me one when ever I buy a filter.

I really hate reusing gaskets.. Whether at work or at home.. Just my 2 cents.

bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
A swipe of gasket compound keeps the drips away...still using the original crush washer...

It looks like some compound was put on the bolt, but when I took the bolt out of course it fell apart. There is a washer there though. thanks for the input
