Well, I was happily cruising along I-35E in Dallas yesterday morning when traffic in my lane started to slow. Well I looked for a gap to the left, saw it and started to change lanes, when the lane I was exiting began to stop very quickly... Which spelled a bit of a disaster for me. I ended up just catching the very front passenger side corner on the driver side corner of an F-150.

The real bummer, some guy rear-ended me and took off!! He must of had a very low car b/c he barely pushed my bumper up (just a slight roll up on the driver's side) to scratch the body panel. What he did do is hit my tire (I'm assuming) b/c the driver's side leaf springs are bent from being pushed past the shackle.

No one was injured and that's why we have insurance, the hit & run frustrates me though. I do have to say, like so many have, how safe I think the Tacoma is.

"front passenger side corner on the driver side corner"... HUH???

I'm having a very hard time visualizing how this happened...? Wouldn't you have hit the BACK driver's side corner of the vehicle in front of you? Or if you were driving in england and managed a head-on, then the front passenger side corner (their driver's side).

I am currently awaiting a call from the adjuster. Today was the first day that they could get anyone out to see it and I do love their timing... Sometime between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. I will be going through the adjuster's notes very carefully to make sure that everything is addressed. This is the first time I've ever had to deal with this so I'm trying to be very careful.

Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it. I'll keep the discussion going once I hear something from the adjuster.

So, got word from the adjuster and... ~$5,000 in damage. So, hopefully I can get the ball rolling on repairs tomorrow morning. I did find out two things about my policy: I have $2,000 in aftermarket parts coverage and there is an add-on that I can get for them to use only OEM parts. Shame I didn't know about that before. Oh well. I also think it was nice of the service manager at the dealership to go over the estimate with the adjuster even though the truck is not being repaired at that dealership.

Time for a 2012 Conversion to at least make it better. Looks like you'll need to replace everything needed to anyways.

    Glad youre alright.

Yeah it seems like I've seen others on here getting aftermarket parts out of a wreck??? Could be wrong, but never are you going to find a better excuse to get one.
    A. You don't have either currently
    B. someone else is gonna pay for it!

So, this whole process has been taking to long... Won't deal with this dealership again. But, got a call today with this news:
    Rear driverside leaf mount twisted
Adjuster said shop is going to try to fix it, if not truck is totaled!!!
Apparently they are riveted on and Toyota says they are not a "replaceable" part? This I did not know. If they can't fix it the adjuster said the frame is no good and in TX they can't swap bodies and frames in accident cases.

    Oh the joy...

That is one way to look at it. If the insurance payment is enough, I can pay off the loan and put a good down payment on a new truck. I know I won't be able to swing a new TX model, but may an Off-Road. Plus, I spent a fair amount of time getting my truck the way I wanted it. I don't have the means right now to go back through all of that. In the end, I loose no matter what. I'm just bummed. I know it was my fault, but I didn't think it was going to end up this badly.

In my experience, any time you're in an accident, at fault or not, you LOSE!

    Glad you didn't get hurt.

Perfect time to remind everyone that when you do buy a new truck, always get GAP coverage. (Not saying OP didn't, just a little reminder)

It doesn't really matter how much. I will put it this way: it was a fair valuation and I did not have to put any extra out of pocket towards the new truck.

Relating to GAP insurance... It only makes sense if you put down a small amount down. I typically put 40-50% cash down. In that case GAP won't help you at all.

True, but the average person does not put that much down on a car. Hell I do my best to pay all cash on a car if possible. Don't like the idea myself of paying 40k for a car that had a sticker of 30. lol.
