I had an injector tester that works great. It connects into the OBD2 connector and the fuel pressure test port on the vehicle (I used to work for GM where EVERY vehicle had one. I am not sure why Toyota is one of the few hold-outs) This tester would then be able to control the fuel pump and injectors. A 5 minute test would reveal a bad pump, a bad injector, a leaking injector, or a possible dirty injector. I loved that tester! MASSIVE benefits to diagnosing a driveability concern.

Oh boy! I never saw that tool before or heard of it. The only way I ever tested fuel pumps and injectors was manually and checked out some of the more simple data via the ECM... I guess Toyota has held out because they figure their stuff is bulletproof. Lol, it kinda is. I can't even remember the last time I had to replace a fuel pump on a Toyota.

Yeah Bill, that sig is pretty great!! Hard to read your posts with her bouncing around haha....

Speaking of fuel systems, has anyone installed the pump/filter kit from URD? I am considering it as I plan on keeping the truck for a long time and don't want to pull the tank every time I need to replace the fuel filter.

Yeah she's got some nice bouncers. I just got into this side of vehicles so I had no idea this kit even existed. I guess I am still into all the preliminary accessories you can buy before I start digging into the meat and potatoes of the car.. maybe I should keep it that way.

It is pretty cool to see how many companies make accessories for these trucks. It can get expensive fast though!

I am new to the forums, but so far everyone has been great in answering questions and offering advice.

URD makes some great stuff! Go check them out.

did u ever figure it out?

    I posted a similar problem.

ruff under load. CEL is mis-fire cyl 1 and only interminent. bugging me.

sounds as tho my exhaust is coming from under passenger side.
but wld that cause only a single cyl misfire?

    several issues now?

1999 Tacoma, original owner 301k miles. No problems until recently:(

replaced Coils/wires/fuel/and plugs... cleaned MAF, Air, and throttle body.

sQuirrel - Sounds like the same issue. I ended up replacing the coil pack on the cylinder that was throwing the code. That stopped the extreme rough idle and check engine light - But at a stop it will still idle a little rough sometimes. Not sure what the issue is - I am at 100K now and thinking it is time to revisit this and do a major tune up.

our problems do sound similar. if u figure it out, PLEASE let me know as i'M currently setting money aside to handle this.

school just started so between my sons clothes/ shoes/ etc... and everything else, i'M once aGain strapped.

so anything of a direction will be good as each mechanic leans toward the most expensive procedure. (all have different ideas of what it is but all are expensive.)

I will chose one though. just not sure which one.
