Sorry if this is a dumb question but could someone tell me how much mulch can fit in a double cab short bed? I'm thinking maybe 1/2 yard? Thanks jim

What are you considering the limiting factor, physical size or weight? You should be able to get over a yard of physical volume but when it's wet, the weight could limit you.

    1 cy = 27 cu ft.
5' bed x 3.5' (average width, taking into account the wheel wells) x 1.5' = 26 cu ft level to the top of the bed rails. I've never really measured, just going off rough calculation.

I should have been more clear, just looking to pick up some mulch in bulk instead of bags to see what's more cost effective. I have an add a leaf so a little extra weight isn't a big deal and I only have to travel 1.5-2 miles with it. I was hoping to fit as close to a yard as possible since they make you pay first and won't refund you if you can't fit the whole load.

Bulk will be cheaper than bags. That place that you're buying from sounds shady as hell though... I used to work for a place that sold bulk mulch, topsoil and gravel and we always loaded them and had them pay on the way out. Keep in mind that whatever they use to load you up will likely have a wider bucket than the length of your bed. If they're that shady, they may give you one - one yard scoop, half of which you'll lose off the back because your bed is too short. In short, I'd find a better place to buy mulch in bulk.

Thanks pugga, great point! I'm going somewhere else. Since its been so dry up here, so the mulch is pretty light. Thanks
