I'm picking up a 2012 DCLB tomorrow, and the salesperson is offering to have them install a basic, 3" lift. There's no doubt that I intend to put on a small lift anyway, basically just to offset the visual length of the truck. However, I'm really undecided about what I want to do for wheels and tires.

My question is - how dumb do you think will it look with the stock TRD wheels and 265/65/17 Dunlop Grandtek tires for a while?

Going back to reading/searching all the "max tire size" threads.....

They call it a 3" lift but I think it is more of a leveling lift. Got mine done when I bought the truck also, doesn't look bad with stock tires but I can't wait to get new taller rubber. Current rubber now is stock - P265/65/R17.

I put the 2.75 front and 1 inch readylift kit on my 2012 double cab and ran the stock tires for 2 days....Wasn't to keen on the look of the stock tires so I put a set of mickey thompson stz's on 265/70/17's on and couldn't be happier with the look...

How much are they charging to lift your truck? I'm guessing SR5 model? I saw my local dealer lift their SR5 with front spacers, and rear AAL, cost about $930, anyone can do better with $930.

Factory tires won't look very good with lift. You can run 265/70/17 with no rubbing or trimming. Make sure lift is Bilstein 5100s and not a spacer lift. A dealer tried that with me.

I have an honest question for you guys. Why do so many of you keep bagging on the spacer lifts? What is it about them that gives such a "terrible ride"? Not that I wouldn't consider the other options... just curious.

What is the dealer installing? and how much bro?

Spacer lifts are the bottom end of lifting your truck....they are inexpensive and easy to install. As long as you dont offroad alot dont stress...............that being said 5100s are 300 bux and provide a better ride.

I didn't go for the lift at time of purchase. TRD Sport, DCLB. It was around $750 installed, for a Readylift kit. I declined, due to not being sure what direction I want to go. I understand that spacers are a cheap way to go, and far from being a long-travel suspension setup, but I'm still not clear on why people seem to be against them.
I just want a mild lift, to separate my truck from the others. At this point I won't be offroading at all with it. I have a beater Suzuki LJ80 for that.
If I go with 5100's - can someone explain exactly what is required for this lift? What about the rear? I'd like to have 3" front, and 2" in the back. Probably 265/70/17 on factory wheels for now because I don't want any rubbing at all.
There's so much information here, that it's hard to sort through it all.
    Thanks

Now I understand. I never considered the binding/bottoming out of the other suspension bits. Do the 5100's address that issue?

our local dealership (stevinson toyota) offers Old Man Emu lifts installed by dealer for 1500 including alignment, if that is a dealer option where your at i'd go for it as that's the lift I (and most yota owners) recommend anyway!

After all of the responses encouraging me to go with 5100's instead of Readylift, what exactly do I need to get? I'd like around 2.5" front, and 1 or 2" lift in rear. What exactly to I need to purchase? My truck is a 2012 DCLB, TRD sport.

The more I read, the more confused I get.

    Thanks,
    Ron
