it seems like the trd sport model has a pretty decent stock intake, i was just wondering if it would be worth it to put in a cool air intake? and if so what suggestions would you have for an everyday driver that likes to get off road when i can? K&N or Airaid etc.
thank you for any and all advice

No, won't make a difference. You'd be better off sticking with OEM intake...

if you want a little more power around town, and do weekend off road stuff. $250 is worth it to me, K&N, you will notice the difference. Plus, its an easy DIY install.

What he is meaning is that our trucks come stock with a cold air intake. So if you bought another intake all youd be getting is a louder sound from your engine. That is all. No gains no nothing

    Don't waste your money.
The factory intake is already CAI.
You can remove the snorkel from the inside of the fender and open up the flow a bit, but for the most part, that's the most restrictive part of the system, and a CAI is going to have to pull through the same opening.

MOST aftermarket CAI units actually pull hot air from under the hood. Volant and one or two others make decent units, but the "best" that provides some ram air from a scoop on top of the radiator support has also caused more than a few hydrolocked engines when off roading.

K&N and other cleanable filters are junk. The best filtration is going to be with your stock filter.
The aftermarket filters pass a LOT of dirt into the engine... enough to make a significant increase in silicon levels in the oil.

Cost? Replace the stock filter every 30,000 at $15 a copy.
It'll take you 100,000 miles to break even on a K&N... and you'll still be buying "recharge" kits.

The only reason you think your noticing a difference is from the sound. The truck wont preform any better seeing as it has a cai in it from day one

No, any CAI for our trucks is worthless. 1GR-FE anyways. (4.0 V6) The intake is already pulling air from the fender well, hence cold air. K&N's CAI has it pulling air from right in the engine bay, Cold my ass. Don't waste your money

I think dyno results explain what your gaining. If a stock intake works so well, why do we ALL have COI's on our trucks. I just love looking under the hood and seeing all stock stuff, thats what I dream of at night

Dyno results (from someone other than the CAI manufacturer) explain that there are no measurable gains.
"We all" certainly do not have aftermarket CAIs. The majority of TW members don't.

And when I'm looking at a used vehicle, yes... I like to see stock stuff under the hood. I don't care to see a bunch of shit that was hacked together by some backyard engineer or slick salesman.

oh so sorry.. the 2hp gain and 2 mpg loss and loud ass sound under hood and terrible filtration is cool and all.. but .. it kills motors over time for letting in particles that the stock intake and filter would not..

But hey you go right ahead and get that BRAAAAAP sound and mpg loss and possible engine trouble codes for your hard earned $250+

I have an AFE Stage 2 intake. It doesn't make any of the noise I have heard people claim. I definitely helped in the power department, but I am supercharged so that is a little different. I also picked up about a .5 - 1 MPG difference in fuel economy.
