First of all, I am new to TW and Tacomas. I bought my first in April. I bought used 2008 SR5 PreRunner 40K miles. I love the tacoma and I am hooked; however, I want to improve the off-road ability of the truck. I know I need to get better tires ( I have landed on the BFG AT K/O, for now), and make some suspension upgrades ( still researching...). My question is about the rear differential. Do I, or should I, need to look at changing anything?

I have been seeing a lot of threads about TRDs and locking differentials, so that is where my question is coming from.

I have been looking on the mods threads. I pulled the 2nd filter and will get the AFE ProDry filter, and will be making more upgrades when time and money arises (suspension, rotors, exhaust...etc). I am open to any other suggestions. I want to be able to go through mud, sand, snow without much trouble, yes I know 4wd would have been better but I'm working with what I have.

I had a base model prerunner with a 3" lift and some good tires and I wheeled the shit out of that truck.

the only time I ever got stuck was in some soft sand and I was going way too slow.

First things first. Go wheel your truck. Then as you need to upgrade do it.

after you take your truck out you will realize you want/need better tires. Start with that.

I am going with BFGoodrich AllTerrain K/O 245 75/R16. Tread life, on and off road use, and price were all considerations...

Anything to look for, on getting a locker? particular price, brand, type?

Go with 265/70/16s, you won't regret it.

Ok 265 70/r16s bfgoodrich all-terrains. Why air locker and not an e- locker?

    Suggestions on suspension upgrades?

Was also considering turbos or superchargers.
