Matte White Vinyl Wrap

to the op, I was thinking of wrapping a tacoma too, how durable is your wrap so far? And did you come close to coming short with 5x50ft? A lot of sites are recommendin 5x65 but I figure that's just so they can make some extra bucks, would you reccomend glossy white at all? Thanks!

Love the matte white man! Looking at wrapping mine because the paint is fading on the hood and roof. Looks like it holds up well, would you recommend just wrapping it over painting?

 

It holds up really well! I would recommend a wrap over paint any day. Its a huge price difference for essentially the same result. Just a heads up not to leave the wrap on for more than 3-4 years. Could risk stripping the paint. Good luck man, if you do end up doing a wrap make sure to post up some pics! I would love to see it

How did you manage to get the part under the back window that's between the cab and bed?

 

For the white wrap I actually just plastidipped that part under the window. It is a pretty uneven surface to wrap without removing the bed itself. On the dark aluminum wrap I did I actually removed the bed and was able to wrap it cleanly and it was also easier to do the sides of the cab where it wraps in behind the bed. Removing the bed is super easy, just 6 bolts in the bed and the gas tank pops right out. Good luck if you are doing a wrap yourself! Send some pictures my way if you do it!

 

Nice wrap! How did you go about doing the fog light holes? Also, did you do door jambs or behind the bed? I really want to wrap my truck as well. Matte white or red.

Hey man sorry for the delay. Unfortunately the tacoma is no longer, it was totaled last year and I have been a bit distant on the forum since I no longer have the taco... Sad

I was trying to pull some of the aftermarket parts but the insurance said that was a no no so they ended up taking the entire truck with all the add ons. I was hoping I could save the bumper and hand to over to someone like you looking for a new look.

As far as the wrap goes, the fog light holes are not fun at all. The wrap is totally manageable on your own or with a little help as long as you have some patience. Id recommend doing the front bumper last so you can really get the hang of how it is applied before tackling the crazy contour it has. You will just lay a large sheet over the entire bumper (Id recommend you take it off to wrap it) and apply the vinyl starting from the center and working your way out. You just apply the vinyl around the got light holes like you are covering them and once its all set around the holes grab the heat gun and slowly start to work from the edges inward with your finger or squeegee. The vinyl will stretch a good bit but I found that using the 3M brand vinyl was much more playable than other brands. So it might be work the extra $$. You can also just cut the wrap around the holes and spray some plastidip inside the hole if you find a matching color.

I did the upper part of the door jams on the second wrap but only because the truck was blue and didn't want to see the sliver of contrast between the doors. If you have a black or grey truck it probably wouldn't be necessary. the jams require a bit more material because you have to cut a piece for the entire cab and then cut extra for the doors themselves.

I took the bed off (6 bolts hold it down in the bed) and wrapped behind the cab and under the rear window. It was much cleaner because getting a hand in that little window of space back there is super tight making it hard to set the vinyl.

If you're considering doing the wrap you should definitely give it a shot. I had 0 experience and it was totally manageable. Watch some videos and buy a small sample piece on eBay or elsewhere as a little practice to see what you're getting into. Hope this helps a little!
