If you're driving along and the truck is making a chirp, what happens if you put in neutral while you're still moving? The carrier bearing noise should be speed dependant and not matter if you are in drive or neutral. As long as the rear tires are turning, the carrier bearing has got a shaft spinning in the middle of it.

    - Billstein 5100's all around with OME 885 coil springs. - K&N Air Filter - HID Headlights & Fogs - Kenwood Stereo & Infinity Speakers - CB Radio, - Fog On Anytime mod - Anti Tailgate theft mod. More comming...
When driving along and I move the selector to neutral, the chirping immediately stops, put it back into drive and the chirping comes back.

I guess it's safe to say that the likely culprit is a bad u-joint. The noise is identical to some videos I've found online and notes saying it turned out to be u-joints. I'm going to have the u-joints replaced next saturday. I might just get a Timken center support bearing and change it out as well.

Thanks for your help. I'll update this thread next week. Hopefully my issue is resolved.

Ray, the first link you gave is the original style. Some have posted the McMaster Carr version but it does transfer some vibrations to the chassis. I wouldn't buy a cheap Chinese knock-off because the quality can be very subpar. These numbers will fit your 07. Mine is also an 07 and I bought the NAPA one

I was having some nasty vibrations at 20 MPH both in gear and in neutral, and remembered this sage advice from a few years ago. Flipped by CB yesterday and my vibrations are nearly gone.

I'll agree than this a quick fix if you don't have to replace your U-joints quite yet.

It means unbolt the carrier bearing from the frame of the truck ( 2 bolts ). Rotate the carrier bearing on the shaft so that the opposite side is facing up and reattach it to the frame of the truck.

This is what I was telling people that my toy. a 2005 LWB TRD sport vibrated from new finally at 69k I swapped out rear ujoint, middle and front, vibration it has had since new was gone. I was told no way a ujoint could be missing bearings for that long. Guess what it now is better than new just like yours I wish I had read this thread in 2010 I could have saved myself another 6 yrs of truck vibrating from 45mph to 55mph. You know and I know!!

Another carrier bearing option is the factory carrier bearing from Dana holding corp on which you can get through rockauto.com for $52.79. Just search under 2005 Toyota Tacoma for some reason it doesn't come up for other years but it's the same part number. 5002334.
I got one for my 2011 Tacoma DCSB and the damn thing even has Toyota stamped in the rubber bushing. Don't use the Dorman carrier bearing that thing is crap.

The one I found was for a Ford Ranger or maybe Bronco II.
