So I'm looking to do the same thing now , do they have to be switch back or can I put regular LEDs ?

Reason I ask is I have some that are the same buld type from a previous project . Can I throw them in or will they not las since they aren't switch backs .

There is also the new option from V-LED, the V3 Triton, they even have a switchback option. They are kind of pricey but they are new so pricing may trend down after they are on the market a while.

Thumbs up

adding my experience to this thread...

i purchased a popular exterior LED kit for all the lamps on my truck. i was happy with them all except for the DTRL. the LEDs filled the bowl with amber but that was about it. they were about half the brightness of our stock incandescent DTRL / flashers. The resistors were also super hot all of the time, which bugged me a little.

I ordered the "Amber / Amber V3 Triton" kit. i called them to verify the right socket adapter and it needs to the "CK" one. The guys were super knowledgeable of their product, it gave me a good feeling.

the kit is really well put together. the control box is sealed up nice. all the connections are weather resistant and feel like good quality.

One of the things i learned speaking with them was that unlike running regular LEDs where the resistors are on 100% of time, with these kits the resistors are only 'on' when the signal function is active. which means the control unit isnt baking and there's no super hot resistors on all the time under your hood.

if you want to run your own resistors you can do that too, but it makes sense to use the ones built into the control unit. another nice option, is you can tie the control box into the low beam w a dedicated plug and the LEDs will dim when headlamps are on, just like stock function.

Most importantly, with these rated at 430 Lumen, they are definitely as bright if not brighter than the stock DTRL. im super happy with them. they work fantastic, feel like great quality, hopefully the control units will last.

its not a cheap kit, but given the alternatives... to me, it was well worth it.

Photo with the regular LEDs that i wasnt too happy with...

V3's on passenger side installed

Both V3s installed

is there any reason not to buy the cheaper 3157 LED bulbs off ebay?

The LED version? They super dim. Plus unless it's just the right bulb it'll short out either the signal or parking lamp circuit

Every 3157ck I tried blew the fuse in one way or another. Except for csjumpers which worked well but are roughly half stock brightness and require full time load resistors.

I have the 3157 CK from VLEDS, Amber replacement (didn't want switchbacks) , and they're the same brightness as the 4157nak oem bulb, at least by my comparison. Their claim is 170 lumens which is almost double superbright claim.
No problem with blowing fuses; have to reverse them if they don't light first time.
I only installed front leds dtrl; put the resistors in the harness on each REAR amber turn light socket. That way the load resistor is off during drl mode. 2 x 6 ohm load resistors if you want leds in the rear too, or change to one 3 ohm on each side.
Did the front corner lights too and a couple for the high mount stop lamp.
Works great!!

I have 3157ck in the front and regular 3157 in the back of my 2012 Tacoma. I didn't blow any fuses

I have hyper flash but only because I REALLY don't want to install the resistors. I was so hoping someone would make a replacement 12-pin relay. You 2005-2011 guys have it easy haha
