Walked out the the garage and heard a buzz or small compressor or even pump noise.. Tracked it down to the rear of the Tacoma... The truck had not been used for hours, what is that? Searched the forum but could not find it, or it was something else? After a few minutes it stopped...

How ironic. I heard this exact noise last night and was wondering the same exact thing. Almost sounded like the fuel pump.

This gets asked a lot, and it's in the first couple of pages in your manual. It's the fuel evap system, and the noise you heard is normal. Most people don't like to take it out of their truck so here is a PDF copy you can down load and read on your computer when you get free-time. There's lots of cool things in there.

Heard the exact same thing today while I was taking down the Christmas lights. Had me worried there for a bit so I called around and talked to toyota motor corp. They had no idea what it was and thought it was weird because the truck was not on, the key wasn't even in the ignition. Took a video to document it just in case I had to prove it to the dealer.
As soon as I turned the key to the on position the noise went away.

It was about five hours later since the engine was running. Well this is good news and just goes to show you to check this site before calling anyone. Use the search function because I "ALMOST" posted a new thread with this concern.
