Embarrassingly confused about an oil change - help please

So I'm trying to change the oil in my '12 taco v6 and pulled the plug of what I thought (and used last time) as the oil plug. I used mobil 1 synthetic the first time.

When the oil was draining I could swear that it had a red tint to it, but right about 5.5 quarts drained out and when I put it on my finger, it does not look red. ...5 DID COME OUT. Thanks guys.

Attached also is the plug I used. The transmission pan seems to be about a foot more toward the back underneath the truck. I don't see another plug around, so how could I have screwed this up?

 

The other quart is in your filter.

 

Your good, thats motor oil..trans pan is a torx head.

 

This is incorrect, trans pan is as well a 14mm bolt head for the drain, alan bolt is the check plug.

OP you're good, it was oil. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks guys. Just had an "oh shit" moment. I was wondering how I could have drained tranny, put an extra 5.5 quarts of oil in, and driven 5000 miles until this.

 

The service manual shows it with a hexagonal bolt head.

However, it should be the same thread size as the other drain- and fill plugs on the truck, so it will accept an allen head drain plug like this one:

BZZZZT! Nope.

The fill and drain plugs on the 6 speed are 24 mm hex. A 15/16 box end wrench fits like a glove.

 

Yeah 6spd is the same as the rear diff, 24mm

The front diff is a 10mm Allen key
