Actually, the Toyota Tacoma Prerunner holds it value BETTER than the 4x4. Check it out your self online.

Not sure. I was reading it last Sat. The Number 1 vehicle in the USA for resale value is the Tacoma Prerunner.

Prerunner

I traded in a Nissan Titan 4x4 for my new '09 Prerunner, I had the Titan for two years, and never even used it ( the 4x4) ,the Prerunner has less weight, and less maintenance cost, and does everything I need for it to do.

Pre-runner probably has better resale because most of the people out there are just buying trucks to haul stuff, most people rarely go off-road, and why get the 5 lug 2wd when the Pre-Runner looks so much more badass?

When you get a good snow or ice storm in your area, you'll be glad you got the 4x4.
It's worth the extra $ to be able to go anywhere anytime.

Actually I think the prerunners are holding value better because of ignorance. When I was talking about getting a tacoma people would always say "are you getting a pre-runner? those are badass!" Then I'd say, probably not, looking to get a 4x4. "Oh, pre-runners are cooler."

I think they just assume they're the jacked up 4x4 versions.... Americans :/

Anyway... like what was said, if you're just hauling stuff a regular suspension setup will do you fine if you don't need clearence and such. If you want some extra toys, check out the TRD packages... Off-road has the e-locker, sport is LSD with color matched panels (no chrome front and rear). Play around on toyota's vehicle builder and read the options list. Also if you test drove them, the sales guy didn't explain any of this? o.0

Maybe the margin is the same for Toyota, but not some other brands. F-150s are a good example. A used 4x4 in excellent condition will hold a higher percentage of its value than a 4x2.

I'd be willing to bet that the exception with the "PreRunner" has to do with the fact that many think it's a 4x4 as stated on a post above. Also, in a state that has the potential for getting a fair amount of snow, I bet the above would apply to a Tacoma as well.

Interestingly enough, in the area of Maryland that I live, dealers have many more PreRunners for sale than 4x4s. Either 4x4s don't remain on the lots for long or there are just that many more PreRunners out there...

^Ignorance has nothing to do with resale value. I wouldn't call the dealerships ignorant in that regard considering the majority of resales would come through them.

A used F-150 is NOT a good example because it's a Ford.
