I am a frequent browser on the forums, never post. I have a 2008 2wd single cab taco. It has 34k miles. I was wondering what some of the people who have had tacomas for a while would do to this truck if you had $1000. Everything is stock right now. I have had the truck for 7 months.

What do you want most out of it? Versatility/off road capability? Power? Sound(Audio)? Lighting? There are a hundred direction you can go. How old are your tires? Does it need any maintaining? etc . . .

I would either upgrade suspension or do something for power/mpgs like a header

I would also do anything but a "chip" like that guy says^ that's just silliness.

I originally wanted something with bigger, beafier tires, but I keep browsing the street forum and am really liking tacomas that way. With that being said any suggestions?

If you want a street queen, don't buy a Tacoma. There are plenty of other cars out there for the same price if not less that are excellent for street only. Some of the most badass off-road ready Tacos I've ever seen are easily over 150k miles with no problems whatsoever.

Smile There's nothing wrong with a Street Queen

I say save some more, and get a lift AND tires. You can run a lifted Taco and wheel it..... I've modded my 98 4Runner that way. I don't like to beat on it either, and cringe at the site of "trail pinstripes" or any real carnage. Basically, my Toyota's are my babies... I take good care of them, and leave the trudging through mud, for driving an ATV.

Good luck with the mods, and post up some pics what you've done!

Not everyone buys a Tacoma for off road performance and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm lifted and my truck barely ever goes off road. The main reason I lifted was because Toyota's stock suspension was a joke and there was a lot more aftermarket support for lifted applications vs. beefed up stock height applications.

I agree with the post above that said we need some more info. $1,000 will go in a hurry so focus your efforts based on what you want whether it be a lifted rig with bigger tires, better audio, new wheels, performance, etc. Pick a direction and we can give you ideas within that category to help you make the most of your $1,000.

I guess it's just personal opinion. I don't understand why somebody would put larger tires and a lift on a truck if they don't plan on ever using that extra clearance. I guess I've always been a function>form kinda guy.

Function always trumps "I think it looks cool"

too many derps pick tread pattern off looks rather than their intended application

Haha that's a new one for me! Never knew that was something people even cared about as far as looks go.
