Hey TW, so i picked up a roof rack off a Hummer from my buddy, decided i wanted it on my bed so i ran to Lowes, got some U bolts, snugged her down to the tie downs, threw the spare on top and called it a night lol:D. Im very happy with the looks of it! Who knew a Hummer rack would look better on a Taco!!!:p oh and this thing is sturdy... Here are some pics from yesterday but i will take more today to show the U bolts ... Thanks for reading!!!

Looks good! I think for what it is, those tie downs would work just fine. Anything else, would probably make it more of a pain to take off it you need too....

looks good. but i would have mounted it to the rail system instead of those tie downs. they are only rated at 220 pounds un like the rail it self.

I'm not so sure I would trust that in an accident. Looks good but I would figure out a more permanent solution if it's going to stay there. .02

Exactly... i wanna find a way to make it more integrated into the rails but still easy to take off if needed, but i jumped and shook and pushed and pulled and even did a little offroad with it and it never moved so its good for now

    .
I would recommend possible fabbing up two posts that would bolt onto the two forward Torx mounts for the bed, of everything back there, those four Torx bolts go directly to the frame of the truck and are the strongest points. Secondary to that there are two steel pillars which are behind the tail lights, those could be drilled into as well. I know because that is how my Rack-it 250lb lumber rack is secured to my truck. I could post some pics later to show you how they are done, any good fab guy could build something that could be unbolted if need be. Looks nice man, great idea

When I had the rack installed i tripped on the way it was mounted, it's because the bed is essentially a plastic tub not suitable for the weight of the rack + whatever i was gonna haul with it. I have loaded that rack with 800+lbs of wood and have never had an issue. The rack basically "floats" above the bed, it's weight supported by the frame.
I'm still working on coffee so I will roll out and shoot some pics in a little while
