Always get the warranty. Keep in mind, like everything else at the dealership, price is negotiable, even on warranties. :)

Based on the level of detail provided, I would say you probably have not researched purchasing a truck enough. In other words, this may or may not be a good deal depending on things not mentioned above. Going on the information provided, I would say it is around average.

Wrong. Don't spend $2400 on this warranty. Find a newer truck with lower miles for the $2400 more. Or put the money into an acct.

Run from the warranty...and the dealer who's trying to sell it to you. That's a lot of $ for a 3 year warranty. Dealers make a lot more money selling add-ons like this than they do on the actual vehicle. Like the post above me said...find a newer truck with lower miles for $2,400 more. Good luck!

I paid $22,000 for a new 2009 double cab... That was obviously 3 years ago, but $18000 seems like a lot.

I would say no to both, especially the $2400 gamble that in less than 3 years you will have major repairs totaling significantly more than $2400.

It's a Toyota not a Chrysler product, no expensive warranty needed.:D

If I were you I would say forget the warranty and make them an offer. I'm looking at a DC TRD sport 06. They're asking $17,900.

    You could try this.

I will give you the full amount for the warranty but if I don't use it in the time and mileage alloted, you give me back half of what I paid for it.

This way you get to use and abuse my money for the duration of the warranty.

If I have to use it for anything, then you keep the full amount.

If you do have a small issue, you could always go to an independent shop for repair. If it is major, you win or come damn close anyhow.

Dont listen to this guy. Good intentions but not true.

The warranty is a scam. Rarly do thry cover much and even if it covers something the brakes it would still be cheaper for you to fix it.

When I bought my truck they tried to sell me a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty for $2,400 just like yours. I knew that was WAY too much, but I knew I wanted the warranty, but you need to keep that to yourself, let them think that you think the warranty is garbage. I did this until the last signing, and finally they budged. Basically they ended up knocking $1,000 off the warranty. It sounds like you need to keep shopping, neither the price for the truck or warranty is a goo deal for what you're getting.

Sorry buddy but you are WRONG.

I literally just picked my truck up today (Saturday 10/27) from the dealership. Guess what. My warranty company just paid out $2,862.16 worth of repairs.

To the original poster, as a consumer buying a warranty, read the fine print, and abide by it if you buy it. Yes the dealerships make money off, but that doesn't make them all scams.

The bottom line is they sell these warranties because THEY make money on them, not you.

I remember reading statistics on this issue one time. It read something like this:
88% of the time they come out ahead
8% of the time they break even
    4% they lose

Pretty good odds for the warranty seller, not the buyer.

There will always be the guy^ that has lots of repairs done, and he comes out a few hundred ahead, but those guys are few and far between.

Of course they make money on the warranty lol, that doesn't make it scam. They made money when they sold you your truck, so that's a scam too?

Point is something, at some point will break, and you will have to pay out of pocket if you don't have a warranty. Plain and simple. Had I not gotten the warranty, I'd be almost $3,000 in debt right now.
