Dunno about the 70s but my 82 had 500k on it and still had R12 working AC in Apr 09 when I got rid of it when I got the 05 AC(only due to parking, ins, reg constraints of having more than 4 vehicles) Truck was a tank, these are not. I'd be amazed to get 500k out of the 08 but gonna try :D

Thanks for all the input guys! So if I'm looking into having to repair this truck along the way, what are the typical probs with an 05' manual 4x4 I will be facing? Am I going to be dead in the water not being able to afford a fix, or is a Toyota relatively inexpensive and easy to fix on my own. And I think with stick, I shouldn't have any transmission probs right?

I ride motocross and don't wanna get stuck in the middle of the desert. But I'll only use it a couple times a year... Think I should reconsider? Is the 4x4 gonna cause me more issues ($$$) in the long run?

look at the blue book value on the truck for all the guys saying this is a steep price, i bet it books at over 16k easy and he is askin 2k less than that and if u can get it for 13,500 i think thats a dang good deal. i no i wouldn't sell mine for 13,500 and it has 36k more miles on it and isn't 4x4. yeah if something breaks on 4x4 its 9 out of 10 times gonna cost more to fix, but like mentioned before there is a member on here with more than 2 x that mileage on their's with no real repairs to speak of. if u don't buy it i may make a trip to cali and get that thing (prolly not from AL and i dont have 14k right now) bottom line, its a toyota, so its gonna hold its value because its durable and dependable.

There's a reason these trucks keep such a high resale value. They are dependable for many many miles.

I can see the sticker shock value tho since my 82 that I got 500k out of and is still on the road now 3 yrs after I sold it with that much on it only costed 5250.00 brand new........so much for history tho, today is new day I guess. I suppose my great grandparents paid that much for a house and my grandparents paid about what OP is looking to spend here for theirs. All relative I suppose.....especially since my house is about 300,000 and my vehicles cost what my parents paid for their 3300 sq ft new house in 1972. Sorry, don't be scared, up the coin and go for it. Things will continue to get crazy high priced.

Kinda wish I got the one with 130k on it.. Was really nice and had 4x4. But my credit union wouldn't help me finance anything over 115k. So I got an 06' trd 6 speed stock with 88k on it for $12800. Thought it was a pretty good deal. Happy with it!! Had to replace the throw out bearing and needs allignment/balancing done on it, so I worked out a deal with the seller to split costs on the repairs ;). Can't wait to pimp it out and turn it into my own truck! First thing on the list will be the trd quick shifter. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

Fellow pool man from jersey. My boss and I part time pool men both run a Tacoma, mine is an 05 with 130k and my boss leases a new one every 3 yrs. Works great but in preseason they get loaded down pretty bad. I added hellwig EZ990's on mine, huge difference on mine and my bosses truck handling the weight. plan on driving mine for 4 more years till my wife's truck is paid for. It should put me over 200k not worried about the truck making it, just the frame!

Congrats on the truck I know you're loving it right now. I should be getting mine pretty soon. Waiting on my money from my credit union so I can make a deal.

I still have the original leafs and bilsteins on mine. Pretty darn stiff and bumpy but they carry the load for now. Can't wait to change em out! I'll look into th EZ990's when it's time. Thanks for the advice
