This has been happening since day one and it doesnt happen alot, maybe 3 times a month. While im driving (example)and pull into a gas staion I go and get what i need with truck still running in park, I reverse then put it into drive I give it throttle and nothing happens for about 2 sec then it goes. I was wondering if im the only one who experiences this or if its part of all the gadgets that came on the 09+ tacomas (traction control etc..etc..) Any input?

How fast are you moving the shifter between gears and wanting to use the gas? Is your foot on the brakes?

From park, (foot on brake) I'll put it directly down into reverse (or drive) and I won't give it any gas until I can 'feel' the truck jerk a bit. After I feel that slight jerk, I'll know to take my foot off the brake and give it gas. No hesitation at that point.....

I have an 07 without all the traction control gizmos.

I do it at a normal pace, I wait until its lost momentum from reversing then I put it into drive and give it a little gas to go and nothing happens for about 2 sec and it hardly happens but when it does it bothers me.

Good to know im not the only one, Im just wondering if it has anything to do with the traction control systems installed on the 09+ tacomas

09 and up have an electronic throttle I believe. I experience the same thing when I don't wait long enough for it to ingage in gear. Always thought that was it????

My 08 does this too..since day 1. And it'll happen when going from reverse to drive, or park straight to drive. I always wait to feel the trans engage, then gas..but sometimes it will not let the engine increase rpm. It feels like a stall our or a bog..but I know it's just the electronics limiting the engine for some reason.

So, you're moving the shifter while the truck is still moving?

I don't think you could show it on video , it's just a lag in the response to your throttle input

Yes it would be a pain to catch on video if it only happens for 2 seconds at a time, a couple times per month. But it definitely doesn't sound normal... if you are completely stopped, then engage drive gear and take your foot off the brake, there should definitely be some response to throttle application. I also suspect it's something with the traction/drivetrain/tranny gizmos or maybe the throttle-by-wire system. Good luck, let us know if you find anything conclusive.

My 2011 Tx Pro does it too. Doesn't matter if on a grade of flat roads. Every once in a while, not every time. Like a pause from reverse to drive and then a surge and the truck takes off. Never from drive to reverse though. I am at a complete stop while shifting from reverse to drive.

Same here with with my 10', stall, then a surge and take off. Not very often, and only from reverse to drive.

I think its pretty normal for the truck to take a couple seconds to switch from reverse to drive, careful about hitting the trottle right after you switch gears tho. If you get the rpms too high right after you switch, you'll turn your tranny into mashed potatoes... doesnt sound like its too big of a concern tho.

Are you using the brake to stop from reversing or just letting the truck come to a stop?

Use the brake to stop, keep depressed while shifting.
