I can confirm approximately the same engine speed on the 4.0 6 speed. 70 mph is 2550 rpm. It has WAY too much torque in reserve spinning that fast. They should have aimed for 1650@55/2100@70. Forget driving 75 mph, the engine even in stock form just ROARS when it approaches 2700 rpm cruising speed.

There's the 'truck tranny' feeling and then there's the 'mack truck' feeling. The 6 speed tends to feel like the latter if some goofball mech puts GL5 in there. With the right fluid mine feels right - it shifts better than my Civic did, not as well as my Fit did. Doesn't mean the synchros aren't gonna eventually crap out though.

If Toyota actually makes a decent manual tranny for the 3rd gen, I may have to trade up. If Toyota is really nice and gives us the current Tundra 6 speed auto for the 3rd gen, I definitely may have to trade up. If Toyota keeps this six speed in the 3rd generation Tacomas, I'll give them the finger.

    Too many to list now.
Why don't you just get a base model and throw some leather into it, and get black rims? :notsure:

:) Still would much rather have this one than an automatic. Autos are just so freaking boring and always seem to shift when i don't want them to.[/QUOTE]

as a man who has never owned an auto trans, i agree 100%. my old man just bought a SC for his 5.7 tundra and its fast as hell, but all i could think when driving it was that it would be alot more fun with a stick.:burnrubber:
