My DTRL's are starting to ruin my headlights due to heat. Dealer said he got Toyota to warranty the headlights, but I have to pay for the install, $200! Calling Toyota America today to see how far I can push this. I shouldn't have to pay anything IMO. Anyone else dealt with this issue?

This is covered under the 3year/36,000. So as long as you're in under 36k on the miles there's no cost to you.

Covered under... T-SB-0129-11: 05-11 Tacoma: Headlamp Assembly Appearance Concern

Should have stated I'm out of warranty. Sorry for the newbie mistake. So far even Toyota has said labor isn't covered. I love this truck, but this is really pissing me off. And the lenses get worse every day.

Get the parts from the dealer and install them yourself.

4 bolts... one is tucked up on the side but you can get to it without removing the bumper cover.
Look up "Black Headlight Mod" and you'll find some pretty good instructions.

Dealer won't give me the assemblie s unless they install them. There is a TSB on this when it should have been a recall. 6 more months :mad:and my headlights will have melted.

Sounds like the dealer is "goodwill" warranting the lights, I for one would appreciate that based on the $200 price tag per light. The labor is because they are doing a "split" with the op which means he has to participate if he wants them replaced. This is very common and when it comes down to it, try to get other manufactures to do the same and they would laugh at you. They can't give him the lights cause they will still be turned into Toyota as a warranty claim.

I am fighting with corporate over the same problem. Hundreds upon hundreds of documented cases and still not even a preliminary investigation to possibly have a recall. Its a major safety hazard IMO. Toyota corporate stated to me that their "official position" is that this is classified as a "normal wear and tear" item. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the lady said she was authorized to speak on Toyota's behalf and that there is no further action that could be taken. They denied by request for reimbursement of the headlight assembly and I am still under Toyota Extra Care Platinum extended warranty with only 44k miles. Still denied. Its sad and frustrating.

I still never understand the idea that this is anything more than an apperance issue. Of all of the Tacoma headlight assemblies i have replaced, and yes, there have been more than a few, I have NEVER seen anything other than an issue with the lense either melting or cracking. IMO this might be "saftey" related if there was an issue with the bulbs literally blowing up or something along those lines, but just because a piece of plastic is melting does not constitue a safty recall. Just my .02.

I reported the same issue to my Toyota dealer when I brought it in for another service (at 33k miles), but they told me this wasn't covered and the previous owner of my truck must have swapped the bulbs out for aftermarket... I didn't know for sure, so I just rolled with it. Now I find this TSB and I'm out of warranty

Since December, I've gone through 3 bulbs in my drivers side DRL. I tried a philips bulb first, then went back to standard Sylvania. Are any of you guys having issues with the bulbs burning out?
    Thanks!

Is this why Toyota put the DRL on/off switch on the light stalk on the 13's? Should I keep them off?

    I never use mine.

I installed LED for DTRL on my Raptor (which didn't have DTRL) and never had an issue, so I just ordered some for Tacoma as well.

Lost a job a couple of years back and at 9-12mpg plus a monthly payment, it had to go.

I'm working for myself now and Toyota just fits my needs better at this time.

....I do miss the Raptor, but not paying the gas bill each week of $150.
