I was originally going to try to get a 1st gen., but after my wife and I talked she doesn't want me to get something older than what I have. 2005 Silverado 1500HD 4x4. I have 100,053 miles on mine and she doesn't want me to get something that has more miles on it and she is scared I'm going to have to work on it a lot if I get a "older truck" I looked at this one last weekend.

This one doesn't have the TRD offroad but has a long bed and camper shell. I've never had a truck with a camper shell before.

This next one I looked at today and the guy went to get the keys and I went to crank it and the battery was dead. He jumped it. It does have a cracked windshield and I told him they would have to replace that. I may ask for a new battery if I persue this one also. This does have the TRD package and short bed. Has step bars and 23,000 miles less. Also has a dealer warranty but salesman said didn't know how long but could find out. Its at a chevy dealer so not sure if its just a dealer warranty.

Which one of these would you look more into? I've got to clean my truck up a little bit before I go for trade in appraisal. Also, are these good prices and what would you offer to start with?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I like to buy from the owner privately. You get a pretty good idea of the way the truck has been treated. The more paperwork and receipts the better.

Alot of owners (sellers) don't really know what they've got other than the usual "It's too small" type of complaints.

If you are patient and keep your eyes peeled there are some incredible deals out there.

    Good luck.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    Original links fixed also.

If you won't miss the bed size, I'd go with the OR.

Well, depends on alot of things.

Are you getting financed through them?

Are you paying the differance on trade in with cash?

Debadged all emblems. trd stickers still on for now
Use costco, get new, trd off road is unbeatable. New makes the most sense to me now that I know the interest rates favor a new vs used.

I would try to get the credit union that I have my silverado financed with currently. I'm just not sure its possible b/c I told the salesman I didn't want to pay more than my current payment which is $210.00. He said its doable but he's only been working there for 3 weeks. Its at a Chevrolet dealer.

Tacoma's hold their value very well. And with that being said, I don't want to hijack the thread with advocating for new, but if we're simply talking price/performance/durability, new is the way to go at this price point if you can get by with a bit less.

Pricewise - I bought a brand new Tacoma at around $26,500 last year with only 26 miles on it. I got a 4x4 Access Cab (extended cab) with a V6 but no TRD or other packages. But I still got an auto trans and power windows. Just enough "comfort" for me.

So if that would work for your purposes and budget, I'd recommend that. But again, I don't know if you need the 4 doors or TRD package. If you do, then my point is moot.

Just as far as price, $1,500ish extra dollars for a new Tacoma with almost 0 miles is a good deal. IF an Access Cab V6 with no TRD fits your needs, that is. My needs were simple - solid truck that will go through anything I need it to while looking really, really cool doing it :)

If forced to choose between your options above, I'd go with #2 because it's newer with < miles and it sounds like you drive a lot.

You can't afford to change trucks right now. Instead of shopping for a payment, which is what you did when you told the dealer you need to keep your current payment, you need to keep the truck you have, pay it off, drive it 'til it dies. Cheapest option you have. When you have the truck paid off, sock away the truck payment until it dies, then buy what you want because you'll have the finances in place to do it.

Yeah, never tell the salesperson what kind of payment you're looking for.

Well I guess I screwed up by telling them what kind of payment I wanted but I thought $210 a month was a dang good payment and I had the dealer that had the silver truck say "Mmmm. thats a good payment".

I have a little girl thats almost 10 months old so that's why I've been looking at DC's since that's what I currently have.
