I just bought a 2013 Tacoma 4x4 off road, it only has 670 miles on it. Well when I go to start it, most the time it hesitates when I start it. It doesn't immediately crank over like you'd expect a new car would do.

I asked the dealer, and they said they couldn't find any issue and it wasn't doing it enough. So has anyone had this issue and if so did you fix it?

I personally wouldn't expect a new car to immediately crank and turn on. It's gotta go a few revolutions at least.

I've driven 2 new cars in the past month from 2 manufacturers and they didn't start immediately.

My 12 does the same thing on cold starts in the morning. I suspect this is normal.

My 08 takes a while for the engine to fire when cold as well. My friend's 07 4Runner also. Seems like a common thing for these 4.0 v6's.

Are you saying it is turning over just not firing fast? If yes, try this, turn the key on (not start) and wait a couple of seconds for the electric fuel pump to come up to full pressure. Then continue turning the key to the start position and see if it makes a difference. My 05 V6 turns over a couple of revolutions before it starts also.

I live in a mtn town so the cold start thing may be the issue.
And i also read somewhere about the fuel/air ratio with the computer so ill try waiting a few seconds

If its normal, then ill just hope it always starts

    .
Well, like a pitcher you need to commit more to your starting of the truck, have more confidence prior to turning the key, don't hesitate and the truck will sense this automatically.

    Kidding!

I've had mine for 75k it's always taken a few revos to git 'er going, didn't seem like a problem to me.

My 08 has had this issue from when it was new. I took it in and the dealership has said this is normal with the 4.0l V6, especially at altitude. Even in bitter cold it eventually seems to start.

Awesome well that makes me a lot more comfortable. If its just a natural hesitation and there is nothing wrong then awesome. Thank you for the responses

My '13 does the same thing. I have to keep the key in the start position for longer than any vehicle I've ever owned. That and the smog pump sound at turn off freaked me out at first but I got used to it.

I'll try Failure2Comply's suggestion and see if it makes a difference.

Try pumping Premium gas 92 octane. I've been switching from 87 to 92 because of the gas price change in my area. I noticed my truck start up quicker with the 92 and hesitant with the 87. It may just be me but doesnt hurt to try.

Here's the deal with the "long crank start". When you turn the key to the "On" position, listen to the truck. You'll hear the fuel pump whir/hum. Count to three and then crank the engine. Works every time.

My 2012 gave me a few starting hesitations until I got in the habit of giving a 3-count before cranking, but now it always fires right up. Something to do with the injectors losing pressure after the truck sits for a while -- they need to be pumped back up.

    Good luck-
