SR5 Power Package?

Hi,

I have recently ordered a new 2007 Tacoma SR5 Power Package. I am now wondering a couple of things:

1. Should I have spent an extra $6k to get the TRD package? Note: I will never off-road; I don't need a compass or outside temperature gauge; I don't need an AC power supply in the bed; I don't need a CD changer. I will never tow anything of substantial weight (perhaps a tent trailer in the future). Etc. etc. I wouldn't have minded getting the TRD seats though (I think that they have a better quality cloth). Did I make the right choice?

To me, the hood scoop and TRD decals on the TRD package just take away from the look of the vehicle ... makes it look a bit toyish in my opinion ... but that is just me (I was born old).

2. I see from other postings that the 2008 is available soon. Should I have waited for the 2008? Wish that I had thought of that earlier ... but I did get a big deal for the 2007 ($1200 off the MSRP, which is amazing for Alberta where the policy is pretty much no dicker from the MSRP on Toyota's website).

Your thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

i dunno where ur buying, but from everything i've seen, the msrp on a trd package is at or less than $3.5k...and if there's nothing else that u like or will use on a trd, than just the seats, buy some seat covers or get some factory leather installed or something

Yes, I am in Canada.

Here is what comes with the SR5 package (from Toyota Canada website):

FACTORY OPTIONS

SR5 Power Package

- 16" Aluminum Alloy Wheels with Wheel Locks
- Sliding Rear Window with Privacy Glass
- Cruise Control
- Chrome Rear Bumper and Grille
- Colour-Keyed Fender Flares and Front Bumper
- Dual Vanity Mirrors
- Variable Intermittent Wipers
- Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel and Shift Knob
- Metallic Dash Accents
- Keyless Entry
- Illuminated Entry

Like I said earlier, with the deal that I am getting on this new Tacoma, I would have to add about $6k more to get the top-of-the-line TRD package. Initially I thought that it wasn't worth the $6k, but now I am second-guessing my earlier decision.

Thanks for your responses thus far.

Same as USA, but does Toyota Canada actually call it a "power package"?; it has nothing to do with power convience options, nor drivetrain power options. Just sounds like the are trying to market the truck to 12 year olds.

EDIT: Canadian models already get the TRD suspension bits (except front springs on offroad) + increased capacity 4 leaf rear springs, so are the decals, power outlet, seat contour, and seat fabric worth 6K Canadian? I do like the TRD fabric, and I have a reg cab SR5 PreRunner, and that fabric is almost the same. Look at a Tacoma ACab with base interior and the fabric is the same type with a slightly diferent pattern, whereas the SR5 ACab's get the 1980's fuzzy velour.

Yep thats what they call it. I live in Vancouver BC and bought the SR5 power package access cab. Here in BC NO dealer and I mean NO dealer is allowed to negociate on the price of a Toyota. Your only way to get a better price is to negociate on a trade in. I decided not to get the TRD since I have already raised the truck and and plan on new tires and rims. I would not see anything great come from the extra $6000 CAD.

I don't have a fuzzy velour... err, my truck doesn't either.

My SR5 AccessCab came with all the options listed in the Canadian options.

i'd spend the extra and get the trd/tow package. Comes witha few extras that are nice to have (auto tranny cooler, engine cooler, upgraded alternator, LSD...). I was thinking about just getting the SR5 power package but after being on this forum and talking to a few of my friends, I've realized that you never know when you're gonna need those options. I go up skiing alot on the local mountains....cypress...whistler...grouse. I know that I won't be doing any towing or heavy loading right now (except for the odd furniture piece here and there) but in the future, I can see myself hauling more stuff around (landscaping).

So my suggestion is, sit down and think about what you'll use the truck for and your future plans for it. That should help you make the best decision. I know the TRD/Tow package seems expensive and I'm not saying it isn't but you do get quite a bit. I'm in BC as well and I'm sorta in the same boat as you (boser65) as to buying the truck soon.

Well, not quite 1980's, but more of a velour than the TRD sport models, the Acess Cabs without SR5, and the Reg Cab PreRunner's with SR5. The fabric on these seats are like a woven nylon, with the TRD sport seats having the same texture and feel, with a slightly different pattern than the base A/cab, and SR5 reg cab PR. As for your fuzziness; I'll leave that to your wife.

you can always get seat covers.. but interior upgrades are never as fun because its harder to show them off.

i just bought my double cab tacoma (US) in June. SR5, 4x4 with tow package. Since it's a 4x4 the suspension is pretty solid. The TRD package offered bigger wheels 17", and supposedly betters suspension, and the hood scoop which is just a fashion statement.

I opted to not get the TRD package as I could get better aftermarket wheels and upgrade the suspension myself. I didn't want the tow package, but it was included w/ the price. It was a little difficult to find a 4x4 so i just went with it.

If anything you can always add the TRD parts that you want/need rather than getting them packaged in.
