I just replaced mine at 96,960miles.. Alas can't afford AGM, went with a Adavnce Auto one.

OP check out Advance Auto online if you are just getting a wet cell battery. Picked mine up for 110.99 - $40 'A124' - $25 rebate. Use the link through Fatwallet for cash back and pick up in store.

If you have the cash and like mud, get a sealed battery, so you don't have to worry about the vents getting clogged like that. Get that acid taken care of soon brother, or you'll have a host of other electrical problems.

Best of luck, sucks you got stuck in town, been there before.

I wiped off the spot where the acid was with a towel covered in baking soda to neutralize, waited until it stoppe bubbling, hit it one more time, no bubbles just powder. Then I wiped down the area with simple green, and pressure soap and washed the entire engine bay with the truck running.

My usual routine minus the baking soda.

the main reason that your battery cap and acid came off its because you turned your vehicle off at the red light and tried to turn it back on as soon as you turned it off creating a physics thing making your cap pop off with all the gases and it forces your cap to blow along with the acid, it happened to me not too long ago, my ex tried to turn my truck on and I had the hood open, the cap popped off and some of it got on my hand but i washed it off as soon as it happened, water neutrilizes acid and irish springs hand soap hahahahaaaa

but yeah try to avoid that turn off your vehicle and turn back on quickly cause it will happen everytime, best to wait on it for a minute or two then having a battery explosion lol

Batteries can lose connections inside of them and arc the cap being blown off from pressure would not have put a dent in your hood it exploded inside. Hydrogen is extremely explosive some thing went wrong inside of the battery that's why your lights dimmed. Dealing with the acid later then sooner will probably leave stains you'll never get rid of.

I agree with Bill. Clogging the vent hole in the cap will cause a build up of hydrogen gas pressure.

Hydrogen is produced when a wet lead-acid battery is charged due to the electrolysis of the water in the electrolyte. Hydrogen gas can violently ignite when the concentration exceeds 4%. [This is why ventilation and wearing glasses is so important when recharging wet lead-acid batteries.] I have seen dozens of pictures of battery explosions and have had first hand experience with one. Your incident appears to be consistent with a single press on cap cell ignition because screw on caps normally cause major battery case damage when the hydrogen is ignited. If the electrolyte level was low in that cell, the most probable cause was a short from low resistance "treeing" between plates. If it were my battery, I would perform preventive maintenance on the battery, test it for latent damage, and ensure that I periodically added distilled water to the cells when required.

For more information about battery explosions, please see Section 14.3 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on www.batteryfaq.org.
