Synthetic Oil Choice

I have a 2006 Tacoma Pre-Runner with the TRD Off-Road Package. I'm going to be doing a oil change tomorrow, the first from me on this vehicle. It has 86000 miles. Should I use the Mobil 1 Synthetic extended performance or Mobil 1 synthetic high mileage oil? Also is the toyota oem filter better than a Mobil 1 filter?

Straight Mobil-1.
I'd avoid Extended Performance (you're going to be changing at 5-10k anyways), and High Mileage won't be needed on your Toyota until it has well over 200,000 miles on it.

The Toyota OEM filter is one of the best filters you can buy.
The Mobil-1 filter is good, but at double the price of a Purolator Pure-One, and triple the price of a Toyota filter, it's simply not worth it.

Titus-Will, Camelback Toyota... $88 shipped for 20 filters. Should last a while

i dont think it'll matter too much as long as it's the right type. I.E. 5w30, but for what it's worth i use extended performance on a mobil 1 filter.

Found out the previous owner was using Mobil 1 for all his oil changes done by the dealer. So next oil change will be regular Mobil 1 with a Toyota oil filter. If I buy three they are $5.00 ea.

AMSOIL Signature Series synthetic and either an AMSOIL filter or the extended Toyota filter (depending on what I have on hand).

I do run it for extended intervals (double Toyota's mileage numbers is about the most I have the guts for), and I'm amazed at how well it performs.

Cheers,
Marc

Good advice there. I'm at 80k miles and still using regular Mobil-1 and OEM filters.

castrol and k&n filters, its personal preference though, any synthetic will be much better than what your truck requires
