    Hello,

Just hit 4,800 miles and changed my oil using Mobil 1 Synthetic. Anyway, when I bought the Taco the salesman stressed to come in for the 5,000 maintenance. He told me just come in for that one due to its importance. Should I take it to the dealer or is it a waste of time. I already changed the oil.

    Thanks, Chris

No. All they do is change your oil, check your brake pads and suspension parts. As far as I know, they don't actually do anything (except the oil) and charge you $80 for the pleasure.

I didn't take mine in. I started the oil changes on my own on a 3500 mile schedule and had no reason to add to the dealer's profits just for the sake of adding to their profits.

Save your money and buy some ramps and change the oil yourself. Just for information sake I run Mobil1 5W30 with a Purolator PureONE filter.

I am at 25K and finally took mine to the dealer. I do all the other required checks and maintenance items myself and keep good records of that.

Nonetheless, I had them re-torque the driveshaft bolts - $9.85.

I really wanted them to put in on the lift and check to see if one of the shocks was leaking. It was not. :D

I was told that my first two oil changes were free. Does this mean that they're gonna charge me for some other stuff when I take it in?

Depends on the dealer. If you take it to the dealer you purchased from, probably not.

I needed some tough up paint. I called the nearest dealer (20 miles away) and they said "$12 and it well be 10 days getting it." Called my purchase dealer (he is 60 miles away) and they said they have some. Picked it up the same day, no charge.

Well- I'd say if you need more than just oil in those two changes they might-but you should have a We-Owe that says two free oil changes or some coupons or something...

Watch what the put in the computer and make sure that they know you are expecting a free oil change...

Thanks guys, I was told that the first oil change was free at any dealer. I didn't get any coupons or anything in writing so I'll just have to remind them ahead of time.

I switched to Mobil 1 oil and Mobil 1 filter at 2500 and 5000 miles. Will probably change at 5000 mi intervals from here on. I let dealer rotate my tires at 5000 as they give me some sort of $ credit toward new tires which I don't know if I'll use. They can keep their 2 free oil changes.;)

That's about the best advice you can get. I am at 18,800 miles and the only time my truck has seen that dealer is when I was picking up a part or something. I will NEVER let them touch it unless it needs warranty work.

I wouldnt do it unless its all free. My dealer is providing free oil changes for life so I have been taking them up on it. If it were not for that....I would not be going there to get it changed.

i have a 2011 taco and i get free oil changes for the first 25k miles or 3 years. Here's the deal, if you take it to the dealer they'll just put regular oil in it. I only have 350 miles on my truck and i want to switch to mobile1 fully synthetic at 1k miles. The dealer is not going to put mobile1 synthetic in it. Do you guys think they will at least just give me an oil filter so i can change my own? has anyone done that?

I too have the 25k 24 month maintenance (Toyota Care). I was thinking since I want to run Mobil One that maybe I could buy and take the oil to them and have them do it? BTW, they are supposed to rotate the tires also. Normally I do my own oil changes but since it's free and includes tire rotation I was thinking of trying this. But I am afraid they will put it the standard oil and the mechanic will throw the Mobil One in the trunk of his own car.

The dealer should rotate your tires and do visual check every 5000, and change your oil every 10 for the first 25,000 or 24 months. You should recieve a booklet with "coupons" in the mail.

I will change my own oil but take it in for tire rotations.

The filters they use are like $4 at autozone...not worth the drive up there.

the toyota oil filter is the yzzdd3. there is a dealership literally 2 miles from my house and i drive past it everyday. I received a toyota care card in the mail the other day. I try to do as much as i can on my own since i don't like the stealership jacking with my truck. As far as tire rotation i get them free also, since i bought a new set of BFG KO all terrain yesterday, from discount tires so the free maintence from toyota is basically worthless to me. I was just hoping i could at least get a free oil filter from them.
