I drilled a couple holes in the roof and put NMO mounts in. I have a Comet SS680SBNMO mounted on one of them, since I mostly do 2m while mobile.

I know lots of guys that mounted their antenna by drilling a hole in the bed rail near the cab and they were pretty pleased.

The left is a standard duel band VHF/UHF The right one is a LiL Tatheel no matter how I mounted it with only the 3/8 24 mount it flopped around like a fish the black part of the mount is lexan (can't ground the base of the antenna) It is best to get the coil above any thing metal that is why it is not near the cab I have made contacts in Asiatic Russia and South Africa mobile on 80 meters.
