i know the recommended towing capacity for tacomas is 6400lbs but a friend asked me to tow some palettes for him that weigh 5500lbs and with the trailer its just at 7500lbs, what could go wrong if that much was towed.
I dont plan on doing it but curiosity just got me thinking.

With that distance definitely not..unless you want to burn out a transmission or buy a new rear axle :)

350 miles is far, i wouldnt do it towing that load with your truck. if it was like 20 miles then that would be different....

i'd imagine the tow rating is based on the braking capabilities as well...so if you go past the limitations, your braking distances and capabilities will be at risk

    ...too much shit to list.
Max tow capacity is not a recommendation.
Stay safe and smart about it. Make two trips.

Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
It is also about stability. When the tow exceeds the weight of the tow vehicle, sway increases dramatically. The tongue weight will probably be over the limit too, which will decrease your ability to turn. This also adds to the decrease in stability.
Even if there is no damage from towing that much, you will decrease the life expectancy of your truck.
Tell your buddy to rent a uhaul, penske, or hertz, and be safe.

I wouldn't recommend it but I have pulled trailer with semi trucks down to little cars. It comes down to experience level and the proper equipment but I have hauled stuff that was much more than gross weight ratings and never had any problems
