Front Differential leaks after lift

    So I have a pair of Bilstein 5100's set to 2.5 with OME 886 Coils which I love. A little bumpy but not a big deal. I went with this setup because I have a Demello 3 hoop bumper coming my way any day now and didn't want my front end to sag after the bumper and winch are installed. I also got this setup because it gave me a lift with the new shocks. And then the front differential seal kept going out, so took it in to the dealership where I bought the truck and they said that my shocks were seized which wasn't the problem or right by any means, they were just stiff as no other. They also said that because of my recent lift, that the lift was making my front axle bend making the seal leak. I've been thinking about reducing the lift on my shocks to 1.25 so the coils aren't as stiff and so the angle of the driveshaft isn't compromising the seal. I'm hoping there's a better solution to the problem....

    i don't think you're supposed to have the billies above .85 when you have 885 and 886 coils.
    how much lift did you get?

    I had them at the highest setting at 2.5

    ok so you have the billy's set at 2.5 with the OME 886's installed?
    the 886's are for dbl cab with 200+ lbs of armor,ect. and will lift 2.5-3 inches (i think) so it sounds like you have 5-5.5 inches of lift, the most that people lift without having problems is right about 3 inches.

    to stop the seal from getting killed and to keep from killing your cv's i would reccomend setting the billy's to .85 or 0, i dont think that the sag will be noticeable unless it's a extremely heavy bumper.

    Sounds good. How much lift would I get from them if I set them at .85 with the 886's?

    OME 3" lift with 885 coils. OME Shocks with TSB 1.5 AAL. 285/75/16 KM2s. XD Hoss 16" wheels. DDM Tuning 6000K HIDs, H10 6000K Fogs. BHLM. Debaged. 20% tint on front windows.
    The CVs were moving at such an downward angle, it put unnecessary stress in all the wrong places. The Billies should be on the 0" setting with the 886s... But 2.5 setting :eek:

    you obviosuly have done no research on what you need to run as a lift. your front struts should be set to 0 as previously stated, not .85 not 1.25 (which doesnt even exist as an adjust on that strut...). the 886x coils are made for double cab trucks (heavier), with 200lbs of front armor (i.e. plate bumper). the 886's will NOT sag, THEY ARE MADE FOR HAVING A FRONT BUMPER MOUNTED TO THE TRUCK TO KEEP THE LIFT.

    i hope you havent destroyed the front differential, toyota will no longer warranty, rightfully so in your case....

    you need to look shit up before you do anything. you mustve had the worst bro lean i've ever seen, what are you running for a lift in the rear?????





    put the struts back to 0!!!!!!!!


    did you put the struts/coils on yourself? if a mechanic did it, i would stop going to him as he is a tard and shouldve told you it will not/should not work.

    There is. Lesson number one in building lifts is: don't stack your lifts.

    You are obviously happy with the height of your truck when it's got the 2.5" setting added to the 886 springs even though it's got a ride that must be rattling your fillings out of your mouth.

    What you really want a 6" lift. Pony up and get a ProComp or Fabtech drop bracket lift. You can set those up with stiffer springs and higher rate shocks to support a bumper/winch as well.

    That lift will cost ya - but then so will rebuilding your differential and CV axles every six months, which is what you're doing now. :eek:
