Took my truck in to have the breaks checked due to squeak at the rear when applying the breaks. I was expecting to have to install new breaks since I have 102,000 miles. They said I have 50% left and the squeak was due to substantial break dust build up inside the drums.

Anyone else have this build up issue? This is the second time to have to clean out the break dust.

My 09 did that and I had them cleaned and no more noise.

Every vehicle I have gets a clean and adjust once a year no matter the mileage.
Brake dust is a normal result of brake usage. Cleaning and adjusting helps keep braking balance in the system. Brake squeak is is not uncommon but should be checked to verify a good system.
