If my money is right and a good deal comes along I am thinking about buying one next year anywhere from a 2005-2009. My question is which year should I go with? I prefer a 4x4 ,but if a pre runner comes my way at the right price then I might just buy a 2wd.
My other question was what all mods do you have to do in order to get a 6inch lift and a 3inch body lift.Is it also true the higher you lift your truck the more wear and tear it has on it someone was telling me they had to constantly replace ball joints and put a new driveshaft because of the horrible vibration etc. It is going to be my Daily Driver so it might just see the mud maybe once a year just want more for the looks not performance. I was looking at pro comp ,but seems pretty pricey is there a cheaper route for a lift kit and body lift without having to spend so much?

No mud flaps, plasti dipped emblems, and rear bumper, Weather tech digital fit, Bed mat from tractor supply. Pioneer 4400BH head unit. B.A.M.F bed rail tie downs. AVS vent visors.
Welcome! 6” lift will require a drop bracket if it’s 4x4.(drops the front diff down so the CV angles are not to sharp) also a 3” body lift is VERY VERY unsafe! in a crash the cab can separate from the frame. or damage the body mounts really badly.

also if you get a 6” get good upper control arms and you should not have much if any ball joint problem.(you get what you pay for, on upper control arms) also may need to get lower control arms.

also some guys have drive shaft problems and some don’t. but with any lift kit or mod parts will wear faster and not last as long. but the more you pay for a lift kit usually means the parts are a lot better.

So I should just go with a 6inch suspension lift w/supporting mods? I want to be sitting high. Is there such thing as a 9inch lift kit?

Don't need UCAs or LCAs with a 6" DB. If you want 9" go with a 6" DB, 885 coils and top plate spacers.

don’t need them, but ball joints and everything will wear a lot faster. and the ride would most likely be a little bit better.

Who cares if it is fake, it looks good :D

True, however, I've went plenty of places with open/open diff 4WD on my sport and have had no issues whatsoever, even in the worst conditions.

You can go through anything with an open diff, until you articulate and a wheel leaves the ground. OP, if you plan on running any trails where you may articulate enough to lift a rear tire, get an OR, if not you'll be fine with a sport.

Yeah, that's the only issue. I saw the off road had a locker when I bought it and I thought the sport came with it too, but I guess it didn't. Oh well, I don't plan to do EXTREME rock crawling where a wheel is going to be leaving the ground anyways.

I feel if you are only possibly going offroad once a year and it is mudding you might need 4x4 for that one time, but seriously if 99% of your driving is on the road and you want a Tacoma with a massive lift for show just get the sport and save what, maybe $500?

And you will gain the colormatched front/rear bumpers and grille surround, and mirrors. Of course the scoop too.

Seems like if its for looks just supe a prerunner up to your specs and use the difference saved from buying a 4x4 and buy a $4000 trail rig to mud with and beat up.

What is a locker? So you guys are telling me if I want something that is gonna be on 4wheels at all times I should just go with a toyota tacoma double cab short bed sport? And if im gonna be crawling I should go with a toyota tacoma double cab off road edition? And there is also such thing called a TRD version? I seen a Texas edition Tacoma what is difference between that one?

The texas edition tacoma is pretty nice!

A locker basically locks both rear wheels and spins them at the same speed instead of the one which has the least resistance like an open diff operates. It helps for things like rock crawling or other lower traction situations.
