Ok so there are a few no driving dumbass people around my town that i have to honk at from time to time. Well the last time i honked only the higher pitched horn was blowing. So later that day on a back road i laid on the horn to see if anything changed and both horns blew but the lower pitched one seemed to kind of fade until it stopped completely and just the high pitched one only blew again. Im stumped. Anyone else have this problem? Should i just buy a new set or what? Dont really like being pissed at someone and when i honk at them my truck sounds like a Prius :anonymous:
    Many thanks to any input!!!

I'd suspect that the low horn is failing or has a bad connection to it.

I haven't looked at the wiring diagram for the Tacoma, but a common relay and wire probably feeds both horns, so the problem would be with the low horn or the connection to it. I've only worked on mid-70's GM horns and bad connections at the horn were common way back then. Could be the ground is loose but most likely the positive side if it's the connection. You can try the horn with 12 volts to test it. Don't jump, it will be loud up close! :D

The horns on our tacomas suck ass. They really do. Yours is going for sure. I brought my truck new, Replaced both horns under warranty 3 months later and now I have to replace them again. They keep breaking and idk why. Sucky design for sure.

Could also be a spiral cable problem. Mine does the same thing too, sometimes.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll check the connections and if it turns out that the horn is just bad I'll just find me a beefy sounding horn:D

Sounds like it's worn out. :p. I hardly use mine. I thought it's supposed to be used in an emergency. But it's good to know how to handle it for when mine does go out.

Uh, no. If it were a spiral cable problem, neither would work, not just 1 especially since they are on the same circuit.
Try removing them and cleaning/removing any paint from the surface where they are bolted. The biggest issue i see with relocating them is the new location spot doesnt make a good ground. But if you clean off the paint under the mounting tab it should work just fine.
