That's a lot of trailer for the Tacoma. It will tow it if properly equipped with a good brake controller and a W/D hitch but I don't think I'd attempt it personally.

^I'm with this guy. Dry and empty-It's doable. Wet and/or some cargo- It'll be a challenge. Wet and fully loaded - Exceeds the rated capacity out the Tacoma.
And doable doesn't mean easy. I'd go with a smaller trailer or a bigger truck, depending on which you are looking at buying...

Thanks for the warning, it does make me wonder though, as many on this forum are towing heavier campers with the same truck.

Is it the length or the weight or both?

The length can mostly be controlled by a good anti sway hitch. The weight of that at that length is the main issue.

The overall size. A 29' travel trailer is a big camper. The weight is one thing, it's high but is within the truck's limits with an empty truck and a dry/empty trailer. You also have the huge profile of the camper, lots of wind resistance and side surface area to get that truck swinging. With good swap control, brake controller and a W/D hitch, it's doable and will certainly push the truck's limits. Keep in mind, a 6,000# flat bed is a lot different than towing a 6,000# travel trailer.

Just overall, that's a lot more trailer than I'd want behind a Tacoma.

I gotta agree. I have towed a similar sized unit with my previous taco but just short distances (less than 120 miles round trip or I needed extra gas cans) at less than highway speeds. I used a WDH and my truck was built up way beyond stock suspension so that wasn't an issue but "wear and tear" concerned me.

I towed bigger once but I won't do that again. Emergency braking was scary as hell. Also highway speeds with big winds were scary - I had to keep the speed under 55.

i suspect you would get a more enthusiastic response if this was posted in the towing section. some of those guys push it a tad IMHO.

Not safely for you, your truck or anyone on the road around you.

Yes, your truck will physically be able to move that trailer.

I agree with all the above. I have towed campers about half that size with various vehicles and had to be carefull with emergency stopping and also strong cross winds, so I would not recommend that. As others have said the truck can physically do it (A Tundra pulled the space shuttle the other day), but that's not the issue. Safety is way more important, and then also the wear and tear on your truck. You typically use the camper for vacation and to go relax, you don't want to be a nervous wreck after the trip.
