I vote you carry the burden for this scumbags incarceration. This fuck was willing to kill him rather than get caught. Fuck him. He should have had two in the chest and one in the head.

I now my rights being an LEO for18 yrs. Always hold the light away from your body during survielance. That is what he will shoot at is the light. If youre going to defend yourself by using a firearm, I hold the light near weapon to better aim. Always assume in this day and time that the bad guy is going to be packing.
What is mine is mine and nobody elses. Dont try to steal from me or threaten to harm me or my family with a weapon. Always expect the worst and youll be better off

Gawd I hate that. I'd be so paranoid now. I'd be trying to sleep in my truck with eyes wide open and a couple of big dawgs in the bed.

    Glad it turned out ok.

Everyone's got their opinion. I'll just say that bad guys shoot people all the time. Some of those people who get shot die. Some of those that die are police officers, military veterans, loving fathers, etc. Choose your battles wisely, the good guys don't always come out on top.

I normally don't. Pure accident this time.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is out. I parked the truck in the backyard for now. Going tomorrow to get window fixed. We have a security system, home protection and a big ass Lab, Chompers, in the house.

Glad you are all okay OP, the window can be replaced.

Personally I know I would have gone after him, at least while he is in my yard or nearby..if I have a kid in my house especially, you aren't coming on my property when I don't know you.

OP it is easy for me to say cause I am not there but I dont think he would take the chance to come back it sounds like a petty scumbag. I had an issue with four punks the cops showed up took their two friends away for minor in possesion and weed, so the four buddies tried to be tough, I stood my ground (prob pushed my ground alittle) he threatened to come after me. I gave him the invite and my address they didnt show.

You are not entirely correct with this statememt; it is more complex than that. Deadly force is not automatically legal when it comes to property.

    Glad everything worked out OP.

In this situation, that would be incorrect (I used to live in Florida and other pro-gun states) If he chased a man on foot, and the man turned and actually DID have a gun in his hand, he would have been able to legally shoot the OP chasing him. His defense would be that he feared for his life. OP could have lost his life, and his kids grown up without a father. Fortunately this was not the case, and it ended reasonably well for the OP.

Yes, in many states an automobile is an extension of your home, HOWEVER when you are chasing a man on foot who is running AWAY from your vehicle, it is no longer considered protecting your home/car. In no way am I saying that I would willingly be a victim here, but if someone was breaking in to my home, or my car, and they ran off when I came out, I am not going to SHOOT someone in the back. I would stay where I belonged, in my house. The guy could have had an armed partner who could have entered the home, where a wife and CHILD were present. No personal property is worth my family. I would stay and protect the family, and call the cops. Let THEM do the job while I stay with my family. That is of course my opinion, and everyone else has a right to their own.

    EXACTLY what I agree with.

I can't wait til she pulls the trigger and the barrel kicks back into her face....lol.

This is a myth. I keep my 870 already racked, safety on next to the bed. Racking rarely discourages. It merely reveals your location and the fact you have a gun.
