Sorry to steal the thread for a second,

If I regear to 4.11 in my truck ("33's TRD Off-road stock 3.73's) would my speedo be correct again?

Are you a manual or auto tranny? If you are an auto, diff gears don't affect your speedo since speed is read at the wheels and not the tcase.

Edit: I am on a computer now and see that you are an auto, so no regearing won't affect your speedo. You will have to use an inline calibrator to correct it but at $200 I just don't think they are worth it. Just get an Ultragauge for like $60 and use that. That's what I do.

Yeah. Im plagued with the 3.10s on 31s. Moving up to 4.56s should make for a happier truck and the use of 5th grear again. Lol

So I just used this calculator (it is my go to for all this chit chat cuz it sucks to do that much math on paper... haha): http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

I used the info for your transmission, its an R155 (not listed in the drop down) but your 5th gear is a 0.81:1 ratio. With your factory 3.10's and the factory size 215's your 75mph rpm is about 2350. If you go to 4.56 and 31's you will be running just over 3000 rpm at 75 mph. With 4.10's or 4.11's you will run just over 2700rpm at 75 mph.

I don't know how often you drive at 75mph but I do it more often than city driving and 3000rpm seems a bit high especially if you have an aftermarket exhaust. I run about 2750rpm at 75mph which I find fine, but I also have the factory exhaust and some loud mud tires. haha

If you never get above 65mph ever or rarely then yeah go for 4.56's. You will run about 2600rpm at 65mph on 31's and you will have a lot more pep from your motor:D

One more question, I have a 2006 Tacoma 4.0 4X4. I bought a set of 4.10 gears from a 4 cylinder Tacoma. I only have the rings and pinions for the front and rear. What else do I need besides an install kit?

4 Cylinder tacoma DO have 4.10 gear ratio.

Thank you for the good info. I believe my next set of tires will be 32s so i think it will be a happy medium.

Even on stock tires the truck was a dog anytime below 2700rpm. My race car 4cly has a 4.9 final in it and im no stranger to high revs on the freeway. That cruises at 5k. Although i dont daily it, i had for a couple years.

For all of you with 33's and 4.10s, what kind of MPG's are you getting?

I am running skinny 33's (255/85R16 E rated KM2's) and 4.88's and I did a trip to Colorado about a month ago on winter blend fuel. I was more concerned with time than fuel mileage so I set the cruise for 5 mph over the speed limit (speed limit was about half 65 mph and half 75 mph). It was about a 950 mile round trip and I averaged 17-18mpg. I also came back from the trip fully armored and weigh about 5200lbs empty (was about 5600lbs with myself, my wife and all of our gear in the Taco).

Nice! Thanks bud! So with our 4.10s/4.11s and 285/75/16s...we should yeild a little better Mpg's correct? Or would it balance out about the same (your 255s & 4.88s)

It might balance out the same not sure. Wider tires are heavier and less aerodynamic. My regear pretty much didn't affect mpg's really. Well my hwy. My city mpg got raped... I get 10-12mpg in town, but I drive more lead footed because the gears make it more fun to drive.
