09 manual states at 20,000 mile/24 months. Depends on your envrionment, dusty dirt roads probably more often then if you live in the city. Just check it every now and then and change when needed. It takes seconds to check. I am about once a year or so, kinda anal but I would never let it get dirty like many I have seen here...

Found this site when I first bought the truck. They were only 3.62ea back then! Shipping costs barely change from buying 1-6 filters, so I felt it best to get a few extra to offset the shipping. Retail price for these filters I believe are around $20 ea. These look excatly like OEM in everyway...

I do mine every 30k along with all the other 30k maintenance. I'll take it out about every other oil change and hit it with some compressed air to keep it somewhat cleanish.

I'm still on the original cabin air filter after 5 1/2 years. I've cleaned it a couple times. Installing the wire mesh and pre filter keeps the oem one in pretty good shape...

Depends on how it looks. I take it out and inspect it at just about every oil change to clear out any twigs and/or leaves. If it looks bad I order a new one.

Ok new filter is on back order. In the mean time I purchased a large home filter from lowes that can be cut to fit. Its re-useable, it can be washed and re-used. Any thoughts on using a home filter in the truck?

I made a big mistake today and had the dealer install a new cabin air filter. Got ass raped for $75. Filter = $43, labor = $31.

Took the truck in for oil change/tire rotation. Asked them to throw on some new wiper blades & new cabin air filter, but didn't get the price up front. I've changed the filter once before and used a Fram filter from Wal Mart (~$8). It wasn't a perfect fit, but good enough.

I knew the Toyota filter would be over-priced, but I was expecting maybe $20.

I'm not sure why the truck needs a cabin air filter anyways. I breath unfiltered air most of the time.

Today was a real learning experience. Always get the price first.

Once a year....it's part of my regular maintenance.

I have a spare filter that I swap in and I clean the filter that I take out.

The filters themselves only last through about 2 washings and they start falling apart. I'm on my 2nd set....bought off Amazon.

it just really depends on your environment and driving conditions

this is how my filter looked like after 9 months 15k miles with 3 off road trips, about 25bucks for the filter and less then 5 minutes to change.

Can't remeber the link but they sell for $3 somewhere. I ordered a dozen a year ago and am almost done with them......AZ is dusty! lol

iowa530 - $75??? Holy shit, I'd be so pissed at them for not saying anything! It takes less than 90 sec to open the glove box and pull the old one out......where do they get $31 for labor from?

I wish there was a better prefilter that would keep out the leaves and twigs that I find on the filter. I know I can put one on but it should be factory standard.

I just went in for my 15k mile oil change and they cleaned my cabin filter for free, wasn't expecting that. They told a customer waiting it would be $60 for new cabin filter  ......I'll change my own when time comes.

I was pretty pissed and told the service advisor that I could buy a case of filters off the internet for that price. The bill states 0.3 hrs of labor. I also got new wiper blades which are installed free. Of the two, installing wiper blades is probably more difficult, but niether is that big a deal to DIY.

It was a real learning moment.
