I am sorry i was mistaken on the year, i had referenced the old TSB that was good to 2013 years.

as far as the lift... yes there is a note that says any lift makes it null and void... but technically speaking the rear pinion angle does not change if its all factory parts in the front... IE in the case above where the person only lifted the front.

Those of you who have TRD off road package did you have to request a 4 leaf pack? Or is Toyota just installing the 4 leaf across the board now? I just made my appt. Today to have this done to mine and hoping I can get a 4 leaf pack out of this. Since adding my leer cap my 3 leaf has started to crone big time and bottoms out on the highway without anything in the bed on dips. Be nice if I can get rid of the vibration and gain a 4 leaf pack as well.

Can a person buy the TSB parts and have an independant mechanic install them. My dealer won't work on my 2013 because it's been lifted.

That's a good question, I'd be interested in a parts list!

Took mine in today for the first appt. of this TSB, after 4.5hr wait I find out that mine will have the TSB performed and they ordered the parts that they needed. Upon getting home I look at my paperwork and they haven't even installed the damper or trans mount but have the springs ordered along with those. Guess I'm going to have to call tomorrow and make sure they are following this TSB, I don't see how they can order the springs without installing trans mount and measuring driveline angles.

the trans mount changes angles so minutely at the pinion joint that it isnt going to make a difference.

Also if you have the off road package you should technically be getting the 4 leaf pack as thats what the TSB states.

I have sense added a wheelers 2 in AAL to my driveline vibration TSB pack, and in the process i removed the 2* shim to keep the angles proper.

For springs they ordered 48210-04670 & 48220-04310 with a 2* shim, so looks like i am getting the 4 leaf pack which I am very happy about. Good to hear that the measurement isn't as crucial as I thought, looks like the dealership was thinking ahead and is saving me from an extra trip.

exactly. think about it. the trans mount lowers the trans all of a max of 3/8ths of an inch, the front shaft will rotate around the carrier bearing and move the middle u joint up MAYBE 1/16th of an inch which would increase the pinion u joint by probably 1/100th of a degree

    Gents,

this is my first post, and first tacoma. I bought it from a local ford dealer about a month ago. I was wondering if there is any way to tell if a TSB has been serviced on my vehicle already? I can feel a very slight vibration on acceleration, but it's more noticeable on braking. again, it's slight - but I just figured I'd ask you fellas before I go to the ford dealer and they look at me sideways. It's a 2012 4.0L 4x4 Doublecab. no special packages.

    Bought it used with 60k.

    thanks!

take it to a toyota dealer and have them run the vin, or you might be able to go to toyota.com and put in your information and you might get some info on services preformed.

TSB is only good within the 5/60k drive train warranty for the mount and 3/36 for the steering wheel damper and springs.

unless you had a previous tsb or complaint filed before the 3/36k mark.

I have an 09 with the vibration issues. I bought the truck almost a year and a half ago with 49,000 miles. I'm at 59,000 now.
After filing a complaint with the BBB and Toyota Corporate about the vibration, The Toyota dealer I bought the truck from agreed to do the TSB for me. I had them install new General Spring HD Leaf Packs ( I bought the leaf packs prior to them agreeing to do the TSB ) No labor charge for installing the new leaf packs. New Steering Dampener, Motor Mounts, Rear Trans Mount, New Driveshaft with New Carrier Bearing.
DIDN'T HELP AT ALL, I STILL HAVE DRIVELINE VIBRATION !!! At least I have a bunch of new parts on the truck.

thats because the key component is the new leafsprings with the proper degree shim... the general springs do not correct the pinion angle properly.

Id say throw some 2* shims in between the spring pack and axle with the FAT END FACING THE FRONT of the truck.... to turn the axle down, this will probably get rid of your vibes (although that is all assumption, do yourself a favor and get a digital angle finder and measure the angles)

    this makes no sense.

If they did not perform the TSB exactly as stated with the exact part numbers listed in the TSB then there is no TSB done, whatsoever. Your description is simply: parts thrown together with 'some springs' not Toyota springs as specified in the TSB

the TSB only works when all steps are done correctly and no steps or parts skipped.

I went in with a vibration on my 2WD '09 at 90,000 miles and the problem was the u-joints. I am at 135,000 now and the vibration is coming back along with some noticeable slack in the drive-train. While I do tow a boat from time to time most of my driving is at 75 on the interstate. Why are the u-joints wearing out so fast? Could I have a mis-alignment in the drivetrain?

determine if this is a first order vibration or a second order vibration, then you can work your way through troubleshooting it.

I think this vibration (Mine does it since new, when at a slow takeoff) happens worse with an empty truck, but as you add load it goes away as the springs drop & the driveline comes into alignment. With a load.
Does this happen to you with a loaded truck? If I put 300lbs in the bed this thing is smooth as silk.

I think it's a symptom of long suspension travel on a light truck.

Anyhow, I just put a rack of boards in my bed when it's empty and the extra weight is enough to quell most of the initial shaft shake.

At any other speed the driveline is very smooth & quiet, except the normal valvegear noises.

by adding weight to the bed it becomes a combination of changing the driveline angles as well as putting more of the overload spring into play which reduces axle wrap.
