OK...I noticed that you said that you lubed the "switch" on the tranny...

That is "EXACTLY" what fixed MY problem also.... Maybe WE have got this issue down to the real problem.... A dirty, and corroded, tranny electrical connection...??

I have had NO problem since I sprayed that connection on the rear of the tranny...

    What ya think?

And if you scroll down to page 15 on this PDF document , it shows the park neutral switch in question . Spray the heck out of it . Some guys actually have to replace the PRNDL switch becuase of corrosion .The PRNDL switch gets very tight when it corrodes http://www.toyotatundraforum.com/pdf/A750E.pdf

When the switch is removed , you can spray the seal on the transmission that sits behind the switch to see if there are additional problems with the lever shaft since the lever shaft is also known to corrode . Once you have lubricated everything , work the lever back and forth with your hand . If it doesnt click through the detents with your hand , its still corroded and needs more lube . Both of these issues are very common .

Below is the PRNDL switch TSB

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/18857706/TSB027709

Considering the melted transmission shifter cable in this case is not the problem . If it were the issue , you would have replaced the cable by now as they seize solid and you smell burnt plastic immediately . It does happen mind you when grounds loose termination . 99 percent of the ground wires going from the transmission to the ECM are grounded through the body , not the battery

My sticky shifter has been slowly getting worse, and this past week I actually had the truck refuse to start. It did start after I pushed on the shift lever. So it appeared the problem was the truck thought it wasn't in park. I was in for an oil change yesterday and it happened for the mechanic. He diagnosed the faulty park neutral safety switch to be the problem. Installed the new switch assembly part # 84540-04010 ($258) and tada the problem is gone. Shifting is smooth as silk now. :)

I should also note that my truck did occasionally throw the PO705 code which I believe does point towards the park neutral switch being the problem.

How did you get the new one on there? Mine new one will not fit over the spindle. Do I take the middle part out where the nut is attached?
