i just recently got my 20k service done by the dealer. got home and went over the truck and there were greasy hand prints on the chrome grill. the bottom of my truck was also speckled with oil from the "tech" spinning the filter off and letting the oil fling everywhere. on the way home i also got a flat from something it must of picked up in the shop. ruined the tire by putting a huge groove in the sidewall.

i called and told them about everything. they attempted to clean the oil but there are still spots all over the rear axle. and when i went back to get the tire replaced they called and told me it was done and they had put the completely wrong tire back on.

the people who did the work must of just been in a hurry, but needless to say i wasnt happy and will just be doing the work on my own from now on. im only losing one free service but i just dont want to take the chance again.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Yeah, I wondered that too. Side mirrors use them but why would they need to check those? My aFe uses allen heads, and I don't think anything else under the hood needs torx bits.

Maybe they were using them on a different rig, and just used my cowl for storage. :notsure:

If we pay $30k+ for a new truck and they "give" us a couple of oil changes, I expect it to be done right. In the eternal scope of life, is it a big deal to have little stuff like this happen? Duh, of course not. But, the fact is that we DID pay for this complimentary crap, even more so if you paid for ToyoGuard Elite, and Toyota probably wants to protect their reputation. Call and complain.

unfortunately the way the dealership is configured you cannot see into the bays at all - the customer service area is walled off and while it has TV's out the ying yang, a play area for kids, free refreshments, etc. you can't see shit.

    This.

I know it's done right, and if it isn't, I know who to blame.

    I prefer it that way.

Are you kidding? These trucks have the best oil filter setup I've ever seen.

Last couple times I had work done on my truck at the dealership , they let me right inside the bay and I chatted with the Tech about Tacomas while he worked on my truck

I am not saying I am good / better than the folks that did this to me today.

    HOWEVER:

    1) I was 'granted' this as a courtesy service - I paid for it somehow since nothing is free. No point in wasting $82.93 per oil change every 5K miles. Even if I do it myself it will cost me around $50 so why piss that $ away when I can buy seatcovers, a tonneau cover or perhaps some lighting for the truck instead.

    2) I am not stating that all techs are tools - just this one. I have read where doctors forgot sponges and surgical instruments in patients. I would hope that people would know about it and that it would not happen again

    3) It's the f-ing DEALER for God sakes. Not Jiffy Lube or Grease Monkey where HS kids get minimum wage. While I am sure it happens I NEVER had any issues in taking any of my cars to a JL (or any other dealers - Porsche, BMW, Ford, Lexus, Volvo - none of them).

    4) I was charged $53.95 in labor (or Toyota was), for that money I would have preferred a smidge more attention to the task at hand.

    that's all.
